Ugh, the foster care system is so awful… Some people do take good care of the children, but a lot just take the check from the state every month.

yes and jobs may be present but they are unwilling. both cases exsist.

unfortunately that does happen earil. but at the same time there is no motivation for long term welfare users to change if they know that check is coming.

I’m imagining this idea going down on the local level, like if your on welfare in your town, you work in your town. Not a get on a bus to go provide service in the city type deal. That would be over-reaching into socialism, in my opinion.

“you’re”, not “your”. What am I, six?

I think a limit on welfare if you don’t have a job. But if you’ve got a situation like a single parent with a lot of kids, sometimes working one or two or even three jobs doesn’t cut it. So if you have a job and need more to make ends meet, I think welfare is okay.

Grammar nazi! Huzzah! St. Hudson, you are so much like me!

i can agree with that earil. but it also comes back to the other discussion on educating people agaisnt having a lot of kids.

Wow, guys! we’re gonna hit 100 pages! WOOT

And I thought you guys were all capitalists!

We’ll still be like…400 pages behind last year’s TASP thread. We’ve got some catching up to do!

Whee!! I’m doing a little hundred page dance.

Now only four hundred and one more until we beat last years!

mmm indeed we do. and i dont know about capitalists but i got my ideas.

Yes, but strict capitalism is too harsh. It needs to be tempered with humane, helpful government.

Is anyone else annoyed that we have to wait 60 seconds between each post?

yes! but at least they have editting that makes up for it right.

Capitalism is the patriot’s way, vote America!

/end propaganda

hahahaha. i wish socialism could work. but who knows, i mean if there are ghosts… lol

humane/helpful government doesn’t exist unless you stay on a local level, where the community can keep the corruption in place.

welfare was created during the great depression, a time of emergency, as government intervention. we aren’t in a depression anymore (at least not economically, socially … :))

I think it kind of works in Europe because the countries are so much smaller. But the US is so ridiculously large that it would probably be too corrupt.

D-Yu, obviously you have not been to Michigan recently :)

why is it that a lot of things created in a time of need dont seem to be removed when they become obsolete. like…say…the electoral college.

and Hudson: wouldnt the corruption on local levels be the ones harder to find and most deeply hidden?
