Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

panic, you’re right. Laws meant to keep us ethical/morally correct just don’t work and end up being detrimental to the cause with which they were trying to help.

I’m glad that UMich “ended” AA. The switch probably doesn’t affect me personally (I know it sounds arrogant, but come on, in-state acceptance is 60%) but AA just bothers me on an ideological level. I just want to be guaranteed, to the greatest extent possible, that my college experiences will be with the best of the best.

wink, on the asian part. true that. mark asian on an application, or write an asian last naem and people almost instantly think you’re a nerd. (i wrote my personal conflict essay on this).

btw, one of the universities i’m applying to already has a >20% asian population, so there goes advantage #1. mebbe i can still rely on advantages #2 (rural geographic location) and #3 (my irresistible charm :))

D-Yu
Luckily for me, my last name doesn’t sound Asian. I’m not a “Patel”!
But it’s true that whenever people see that I’m Indian, they just assume that I’m good at science and plan to be a doctor…

and hudson finanaces shouldnt limit you to instate. scholarships are out there and schools can shell out some cash too. but UF is good stuff none the less.

fridge what do you plan to do? take over the world?

Got to go once again. Check in later!

most unfortunately, my PSAT has confirmed that stereotype at my school. o well, NM will look good on my transcript.

i think wink will attempt to spread the religionof winkism across the world…

don, don’t go! i’ll be outnumbered 3-1 by girls here! ok, 2-1 since cira hasn’t arrived

ahh fabulous. and im sure that is quite unfortunate d-yu. you have excelled at the psat : P

haha, get to take the real thing (SAT) on March 1

Back from lunch!
Are we talking about the SAT now? Yuck…

i took em in like october. the writing prompt was a joke.

My parents were very disappointed in my PSAT score…I have shamed my family!

EDIT: I have yet to take the actual SAT and haven’t signed up yet. I’m taking the ACT on March 11, I think, as part of the Michigan’s new standardized test system.

“fridge what do you plan to do? take over the world?”

Yes. I plan to take Asia in 45 minutes or less.
If you suck-up to me, I might let you be a part of my large, fat, bureaucratic dictatorship.

ewww dictatorships are mas terible. and oh boy you have one of those families fridge? bummer.

My family is a bit strange. My parents didn’t come right out and say that they were unhappy…but I could see it in their faces. Maybe it would have helped if I’d cracked a single one of those prep books they bought…or not.

what do you mean as part of their system? they have a system to how they want people to take them. i also took the act in october. im happy to say i dont plan to retake. not for all of japan (my share of fridge’s takeover)

mmm but im sure you did very well. and ha those prep books just werent appealing to me.

I’m back. Speaking of Sats, I took them twice already. I know I’m a nerd. Got a 1240/1600 first time, which I was mad/sad about so I took it again hoping for something above the 1300 range. On PSATs I got a 1360, so I barely qualified for National Merit Scholar, but I know I won’t make it to the finals.

i have no chance for national merit, most likely national achievement :frowning:
but for SATs i made it over the 1300 so im done. no more standardized testing pencil torture for me.

hmmm… if wink is the supreme being in winkism, yet winkism has a family, does that mean winkism is polytheistic religion?

also, yeah, the SAT is standardized, but WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO LOOOONNNGGG? seriously. my parents are pretty much making it 1st priority. this blows.

don, don’t you mean a national merit commended? cuz, if you’re a scholar, you’ve made it past the finals and is getting $$

“what do you mean as part of their system?”

The old MEAP test (Michigan Educational Assessment Program) was replaced by the MME (Michigan Merit exam) for juniors. Part of exam is that we take the ACT (paid for by the state), and it’s required for graduation. If I score above average (21?) then I get $4,000 for college.
