Telluride Association Summer Program ( TASP ) 2008

actually right now its this book libete: a haiti anthology
it sorta chronicles the history through papers, songs, poems, and stuff like that.

Sounds smart it seems anthropologically related, would I be right?

yeah it is. but for someone who wasnt too connected and up to date on their culture it was like gold.
how bout you?

I read a book a while back by Tolstoy called “The Death of Ivan Ilyich.” It’s all about how living a normal life is a wasted life and how the mass of men don’t realize how unauthentic their lives are due to materialism and feigned relationships. It was awesome. Definite recommendation.

Nobody here? Alright I’m checking in a couple hours later.

mm tolstoy sounds serious. but it seems like something worth discussing. the concept that is. but it would explain you and your paradox donny.

Yeah! somebody is her, I said I was gonna go, but I’m honestly addicted.

I didn’t know I had a paradox…what exactly is it?

hi guys! i’m back… wow… only 4 more pages? i left like 6 hours ago - i’m disappointed, and relieved…

interesting… i wonder what i sound like…

topics for debate: i read some earlier posts on music - so… the morality of free downloadable music?

Now that is a good one, D-Yu. I’m torn on the issue…

Are we talking about the ethics of fdm, or my personal perception of whether or not fdr is morally right or wrong?

i’m not gonna lie, i’ve downloaded a coupla songs (20 at most). mebbe a good compromise is cheap downloadable music (like $5 a month for unlimited downloading) people might splurge for the first month or so and download a 1000 songs, but will eventually cool down. besides downloading spreads the popularity of songs and bands, so people might want to buy songs that aren’t available for download

btw… don, what happened to saying “you have sparked the beast” at the beginning of every debate?

another btw, any progress on my nickname? - i couldn’t think of any yet

I’ve never downloaded a song before. I’m not a goody tissue, simply, I prefer to have something tangible with which I can hold when I’m older and look back at myself, so really, my materialism deters me from FDM.

why would we discuss your personal perception only.

and im sorry but i refuse to buy a cd for the one or two songs i like, which for me is almost always the situation. i download.

What I meant to say is whether we should talk if FDM is morally reprehensible or if FDM is actually harmful to the music industry.

panicpower, do you use limewire? i don’t cuz i’m a little iffy about downloading an actual program onto my computer

don, both those issues are linked and should be addressed in this debate. i think, in moderation, it actually helps the music industry by advertising the artists work. morally, it’s not stealing because you didn’t take it illegally. it’s like a free product for everyone to take. it’s not like you hacked into the band’s website and took an archived song

i think what would in part make it morally wrong is who is suffering. and id say the industry is suffering.

panicpower, I force myself not to buy those CD’s; It’s almost a masochistic tendency of mine, depriving myself of what I enjoy for the sake of completeness.

D-Yu: you can be “the last man on Earth,” seeing as I have admitted my affair with feminine television, thus negating my status as a man. (:

yeah i do have limewire. though i recently had to clear my harddrive so i lost all my files, music and all other things, so i havent started up again. but you have to fiddle with the setting so your not sharing or somethin.

hudson: that makes the name don juan even more juxtaposed.
and i like last man on earth lmoe

I don’t download, but I highly recommend bittorrent. You have to download a program just so your computer can read the files. Here’s a site for you to school yourselves.
