@Parallelular To answer your question from the last page, my interview didn’t veer into any topics that I wasn’t familiar with. We mostly talked about my essays, but anything else we talked about was related to my application in some way. They’re not there to tear you apart and see what you know. :)

The one uncomfortable thing about my interview is that the sun was beaming in through the window at me for the entire hour and I’m pretty sure I got really sweaty. xD But that didn’t affect anything, I’m sure. Unless… I can just picture the report now…

“This applicant was good, but unfortunately, she sweats. TASPers are not human. Thus, TASPers do not sweat. I must say she is highly unqualified for the summer program.”

@Parallelular Hahah, definitely. If there’s anything I learned from this interview, it’s how to give an interview better, how to be prepared (in terms of knowing where you’re meeting), and how to avoid sitting somewhere where there’s a lot of distractions. Although the weird thing is that my interviewer was kind of a socially awkward guy. Sigh, I hope my future interviews don’t end up this way, haha.

@ThisCircusWheel That’s hilarious. I’m glad you had a better experience then I did. Were your interviewer/s really casual/informal?

This circus Wheel- LOL
so true. My experience was exactly the same way. I was in this tiny room, it was so hot and I was sweating every single minute, I was parched dry and nervous. It was almost like an inquisition chamber with albeit more friendly inquisitioners. BUT I refused to show fear or sweat. I sat in military fashion, even leaning back once like the interview was a piece of cake. When I left, THEN I asked for the soda.
See, TASPErs must overcome their humanity if they really want to be in TASP :)

I know this was a joke, and I know exactly what you meant.

Nonetheless, I couldn’t pass by this thread without saying that “overcoming humanity” is the absolute antithesis of TASP, and that’s one of the things that makes it so wonderful.

So I had my interview today. It really wasn’t a terrifying experience; my interviewer (just one) was extremely nice and funny. I think it went pretty well, but I can only judge myself because I can’t compare my interview to anyone else’s. Overall, it was a good experience. We covered all the essays, though we veered off topic sometimes. But everything we talked about was directly or indirectly linked to my essays. I’m pleased because now I’ve done all I could for TASP. Now I just have to wait! My interviewer told me that he didn’t know when notifications would be sent out, but that I could contact the Telluride offices.

Good luck to everyone who hasn’t been interviewed yet :):

Judging by the people who said that they had good interviews and covered all their topics and had friendly interviewers and were generally happy with their interview process, I’m guessing that’s how a good interview should be like. Sigh. I’m guessing those who don’t get to cover all their topics are people who are poorly supporting their essays. Dangit. Whatever, at least I tried. I honestly did not think I’d get this far, especially considering that my essays were last minute, just so I could turn it in and be like “well you turned it in and now you can just have closure” kind of thing because honestly I kept scrapping my essays because I didn’t think they were good enough. I mean it’s still a great thing to put on my resume that I was chosen as a finalist. I wish I just didn’t choke during my interview. Those interviewers were good. They knew how to catch me off guard. To everyone who did well, I am honestly happy that yours went well, and I wish everyone luck on their interviews, including whoever said there’s was in a law office, ouch!

So my interview was today, and I thought it was quite interesting. My interviewer and I ended up very briefly discussing two of my essays, not discussing one at all, and spending almost the entire time debating the thesis of my conflict essay. She completely disagreed with the essay, and I completely disagreed with her, so we spent about 25 minutes talking about just the one essay. My only word of advice is that you might be exhausted, but enjoy yourself. Just think of it as a conversation with someone at or above your intelligence level, and just be honest. I think it went well, but I panicked for about two hours after the interview because of little things that I might have done wrong.

that’s kind of similar to how mine went. it felt as if no matter what answer i gave them they just weren’t having it. so then i just felt kind of hopeless.

@nil desperandum

yeah! you can totally do that for your college apps. college apps are like basically bragathons/complaint forms.

if there were any resources in school that you were short on for example budget cuts cut a certain art program and it affected you, you can talk about that, there’s even a section i think for that kind of stuff. you can even mention being a finalist because that’s still a VERY big deal. the Telluride program is held in high regard and like it says on their website, it is very prestigious. I would definitely recommend having it on an app.

If it’s important to you to include it, you definitely can, but I really think it doesn’t make much of a difference. Even getting into TASP doesn’t guarantee your acceptance to top colleges, so being a finalist won’t either.

It won’t solely guarantee you into a top school. There’s very few things that solely determine that. Anyways, it still looks really good that you even made it that far, that you you were one of the about 107 kids chosen out over a thousand in a prestigious program. Being a finalist is still a big deal. I’d be stupid not to put that down on my college apps.

Just had my interview today as well, a bit late in the game i suppose. And yes, they didn’t seem too impressed by my answers, and I initially misinterpreted some of their questions, but it was definitely fun/interesting.

Former TASPers, think we still have a decent shot?

Definitely be familiar with your essays and remember to go over the other parts of your application as well. We went over the first 4 essays.

You guys, you’ve got about 23 more days for this.

They will go by fast.

Stress helps.

Be stressed!!! It is **the ** greatest (time-)killer!

In all seriousness, worrying on here on CC may or may not be the healthiest of habits you can take up around now. Kick back, paint something, read, hitchhike across the country, do SOMETHING to kill time.

Hey everyone I’ve been following this thread for a while just never got the chance to comment.

I had my interview about a week ago. I had two interviewers and we covered all but one of my essays, overall i think it was a good learning experience. I’m so anxious though!!! When do we find out about their decisions? Is it the end of April or the beginning of May?

I’m trying to find ways to fill up my time but my mind always comes back to this…
