Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2010

@nil desperandum

“april 27th is when Tasp might/might not come out. april 29th is my birthday.”

April 29th is my birthday too! haha. :D

And if I don’t get in to TASP, I’ll be at NYU Tisch for a month. Pretty solid backup. :)

@pale dot- I wondered about that- a surefire MItes or a chance at Tasp- which will you choose- the suspense!!!
Yeah, if i had that decision I would literally cry for a week, I was thinking about that on my bus ride home.

@Waggish- yay! so many people were born on my day. Another girl in my school shares my b-day too.
thats cool that you have that backup.

wish i did.

oh, well i always have sams
or i could get a job and learn how to drive, thats important.

Love
Now, is when we need to comfort each other during our hard months of waiting. I declare this thread in its TASP WAITING SUPPORT ANXIETY GROUP STAGE

rejected ssp and clarks :(

TASP its all you now

Lol. My interviewers actually asked me what my summer plans were if I didn’t get into TASP. Not exactly confidence inspiring.

The last month and a half flew by so quickly. What is this strange force slowing down time now?!?!?
Ugh.
Good luck, us.

i know what you mean parallelular…this week has been sooo long and its only wednesday… i should be studying for and focusing on ap’s but i just want to know the tasp decision already!! le sighhh

Speaking of birthdays. Yesterday was my birthday and the same day i was rejected from SSP. Nice present…

Here it is i guess. One of the longest waits of our lives. Good luck people. I truly hope everyone gets something exciting to do this summer.

Rejected by Naval Academy Summer Seminar… but I only applied to appease my parents…

New back-up: teaching myself the material that we haven’t covered this year for the Physics SAT II Subject Test

I’m trying to distract myself and prepare for AP tests and all that jazz but…it is so not working. I’m terrified about my scores this year. Senioritis kicked in prematurely D: All I can think about is summer.

Does anyone else really wish to know other finalists? I don’t know anyone in my area that has even heard of TASP. It’d be nice to get to know some of you. I understand that it would ruin the surprise for those that do get accepted, and I heard about some conflict last year so, I don’t want to push the idea of making a Facebook group or anything like that. As they say where I’m from, yo ni se. (I don’t even know.)

Anyway speaking of birthdays, happy late/early birthdays, you guys!
Mine is all the way in July. Lol.

Anxiety

Same here, I’ve been studying for my APs and finishing schoolwork, but I desperately want the semester to end. (And I desperately want to hear back from TASP…)

I didn’t apply to any other summer program, so if I don’t get in I’ll probably travel with my family and do volunteer work. I was at a pre-college program last summer and, though I fell in love with the university (Brown <3), it was ridiculously expensive, as most summer programs are. So I wouldn’t do another pre-college program…

@PaleDot: I feel exactly the same way. I’m so curious as to where you guys are from, what your interests are, etc. I’m not suggesting that we all share intimate secrets, but it would be nice to learn more about the other finalists. Honestly, I can’t even tell if someone’s male or female from many of the screenames, haha. (By the way, you speak Spanish? Where are you from?)

AP Physics B is eating my soul.

@Delaluna
I speak Spanish, though my grammar is sketchy. I was born in Cuba and came to Miami when I was 3 years old. I’ve never taken a Spanish class, hence the sketchy grammar, but I’m always translating stuff for people so I maintain the language pretty well.

Additionally, I would love to know, like you said, little things, interests, etc. Maybe we should start a little list going, like everyone should list certain things? I don’t know. I’m not an idea person. What do you think?

I would totes be more than okay with anyone IMing/PMing (Idk the proper terms) me.

@cagedbird93 Don’t even get me started on AP Physics! At my school, it’s kind of a free period, and I’ve taken advantage of that and not paid attention all year (not that there’s anything to pay attention to) and so now I’m paying a dear price. D:

Every year, we’re lucky if there’s a 3 here or there out of the 30+ kids that take the class. Needless to say I’m focusing on other exams :/

I also did a pre-college program last year at (well, near) one of my dream schools, and neither my parents nor I are willing to go–and pay for–another one. So if I don’t get in, it’s volunteering or a local internship for me. But then again, community volunteering is far from a terrible backup plan.

Fingers crossed for the 27th!

I really hope the 27th is the correct date…I can’t imagine being that anxious and building up suspense for that Tuesday just to realize that it could be a couple of weeks longer before we find out.

I also like the idea of finding out a little about all of the finalists (especially since no one where I live has even heard of TASP).

Page 111
Make a wish

I’m super super super curious about the other finalists too. But…
I don’t want to
a) get too attached and then not get in  or
b) know any people already if I get in by some miracle.
You know?
(Yet I keep posting?)

@PaleDot: you totally win in screwedness for Physics. Where do you go to school? I can’t believe you don’t get proper teaching in such a hard subject! and good luck with your other exams!

as for my backups, I got into Girls’ State (state govt simulation thingy for the ladies), but I’m still holding out for TASP before i look into other programs. *crosses fingers

I don’t want to be a downer, guys, but:

“The second part of our policy is a recommendation regarding your interactions with each other. We believe TASPs are at their best when everyone comes to the program with a clean slate and an open mind. We understand the temptation to discuss your essays, your hopes, and your fears with your online peers. But we say from experience that if you are selected for TASP, the program will likely be more valuable for you if your first encounters with your fellow TASP community members are on the first day of the program.”

I really think we’ve done a good job honoring this so far. Compared to past years anyway. I think we should keep honoring it… as much as I’m curious too.

We don’t have that much longer to go anyway. :)

Just thought this was some wise advice taken from about a million pages back :)

I go to school in Miami. Hialeah, to be precise, but no one knows what that is, lol. Yeah, I figure all my other tests will even out the nasty physics score.

Also, here’s a suggestion, and the only thing I could think of that respects all the privacy that need be respected:
Once decisions go out, maybe perhaps we could make some sort of fb group or something for those rejected and still get to know one another? I don’t know.

Anywho, ten days! Fnord!

You guys are funny & seem chill. I thought the types of people who were going to apply to these program where going to be like on a complete different level than me, but you guys seem pretty cool and judging by how you guys talk on here we would probably be friends in real life if you went to my school, after April 27th we really should take care of that whole getting to know each other thing, haha.
