I’ve never heard of those…are those specifically stated on the website? I don’t remember reading them. (I know nothing to what actually goes on, so I’ve sent a few PM’s.)

Either way, I don’t mind public speaking so it shouldn’t be that bad (I used to be really shy, but I’m a lot more social now).

Man I was really getting excited about this program. In the beginning I had no attachments, but come on, it’s such a unique program, so different from anything out there that I’ve seen. That’s one of the only reasons why I considered it. Plus, it’s not just limited to your interests, and everyone comes from a variety of different backgrounds, one of the things that makes it so cool. Sucks I won’t be spending my summer with any of you guys. I’d really like to hear how it goes though!

Do you mean the Telluride houses? I think it would be totally amazing. I wonder how they look upon tasp rejects though
Because from the cornell branch application, it seems like anybody can apply straight for freshman year.

CBTA (Cornell Branch Telluride Association) is open for pre-freshman “preferment” applications only to Telluride Associates, i.e. TASSers or TASPers. I’m not sure about MBTA (Michigan), except that their application process is done in spring rather than early fall (and I do mean EARLY fall, preferment app was due in mid-September). Both are definitely open to regular Cornell/Michigan students’ applications once you are actually an enrolled student, i.e. after the first year.

I might be totally misunderstanding, but from the cbta website (yup, i just checked. haha), it seems like there are three types of applicants: current cornell students, tasp alumni prefreshman applicants, and regular prefreshman applicants. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Of course you do! That’s what happens once you get to TASP, silly. But talking personally with people that you’ll be spending the summer with on the internet beforehand CAN lead to the judgments mentioned above. Conflict has definitely happened as a result of getting to know people on the internet before TASP.

Last year, my factota sent out a packet answering pretty much every question one could possibly have about our TASP, including things to bring, which airport to fly into, what our basic schedule would be like, etc. I can’t remember when this came but I think it wasn’t until a few weeks after notifications.

You’ll be mailed those soon. Patience, grasshoppa! (:

So do you advise that we should wait until we get that letter to book our flights? Or should we do it as soon as possible to ensure cheapest airfare?

Did any of the previous TASPers on here get the transportation scholarship money? If so, what all does it cover? Just the flight, or the flight and the cab to campus? Or do we meet our factota at the airport?

I’d book now to get a better price. As long as you fly in on the first day at a reasonable hour (i.e. not at 3AM or something ridiculous like that), you’ll be fine. I think most of us got into Austin around 12ish and that worked well for sharing a shuttle to the house.

I didn’t apply for the transportation voucher, but I’m fairly certain it only covers the flight. Your factota might let you know if other TASPers are getting in at around the same time so you can meet up and share a cab or something, which definitely defrays cost. If that expense is an issue, though, you can always ask if they’ll cover it.
