Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2010

Alright guys, I am going to Cornell this year. Honestly i had never heard of this program until I received the application. I am pretty excited about it, but I hear a question frequently so I thought I would post it here. “Whats the big deal?”
Any feedback? haha

^I’m not sure I know what exactly your asking

Like, how do I explain to people the awesomeness of Telluride (1)? Or “what is the big deal about TASP” (2)?

(1). “So, epigramimpelled, what are you doing this summer?”
“I’m going to the Telluride Association Summer program for six weeks.”
“Oh, so you’re going skiing?”
“No.”
“So what is it?”
“It’s kind of like a commune…I wrote lots of essays…yeah.”

(2). Let’s find out in a week! I’ll be seeing you, stranger.

ONE WEEK!

I have found no satisfactory way to explain this upcoming summer without sounding pretentious/overly excited/infuriatingly vague. So I’m with you both there. :)

But 6 days, guys! Insanity.

Has anyone started packing yet?
Im trying to start but there are just too many exciting things to learn when there is no school.

Bon voyage to all the TASPers as you embark on this adventure. Safe travels tomorrow on your way to UT-Austin (and to the Cornellians whenever you travel.)

Congrats to the new TASPers.

Lol, if only I could find the telluride house…

if only i could find my way back to the telluride house…

Lol, so true… Go TASP 2010!

Holy **** you guys are already done aren’t you.

I hve a tiny question: What is this TASP? and how do I get into it?

TASP, if you get in, will be the greatest experience of your life. Apply here: [Telluride Association: Our Programs: For High School Students: Summer Program for Juniors (TASP): General Information](http://tellurideassociation.org/programs/high_school_students/tasp/tasp_general_info.html)
when applications come out.

^^ So does that mean for upcoming juniors this year?

^Yes. You apply during your junior year (around Christmas, if I remember correctly) and attend the summer after (rising senior summer).

oh,ok thank you, that’s very helpful.^

I affirm what apidae just said. It was honestly the best six weeks of my life. You’ll be a different person when you’re done, and you’ll make so many amazing friends. Please apply for next year. You won’t regret it.

TASP will nest itself in your soul regardless of the ultimate decision. Should you be accepted, TASP will be the greatest experience in your young life.

If not, the pain will stay for quite a while…

But apply! For the right reasons. Don’t apply just because it’s prestigious or because you think it will help you get into college.

Apply to TASP! It’s the best experience ever, should you get in. And, should you not get in, the Telluride Association acknowledges that it may be a traumatic experience. They can only fund so many people, but if you don’t apply, you have no chance of being one of those people!

Hey guys. I figured I’d post here rather than make an entirely new thread over the issue so… I have a few questions 'bout TASP. :D

1. Are all the kids absolutely brilliant? I mean, I consider myself to be a reasonably well-read 16-year-old, especially amongst the peers at my HS where out-of-class reading consists of Sports Illustrated, People, and the like. In other words, will I feel left out if I’m not extremely intelligent and in possession of a vast general knowledge of things?

2. I really want to go to the Cornell one. Can any former Cornell TASPer fill me in? What’s the campus like, and the activities? Is there lots to do in Ithaca? Would you have rather gone to a different campus for TASP, such as UT Austin?

3. Do your essays have to be out-of-this-world? I’m very interested in the program because writing essays is my forte- it’s what I do best, and I already have a million ideas brewing in my mind about what to write on for the topics. But do your essays have to be at the level of Harvard acceptance essays to get you in?

4. I don’t really care about the whole college-boost thing; I just found the program fascinating in itself. But as a sidenote… does this have a significant impact for top schools?

5. How’s the workload? Is it manageable for a kid coming from an average public HS? I’m taking 3 AP’s this year and 4 next year.

6. Do you become very close with other TASPers, or are many of them the isolationist type who aren’t really friendly or social?

Sorry for all the questions. Please help if ya can. Thanks. :P
