Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2011

1492 words on the essay I thought I went over on! Typing the last two. It’s so strange. At some points during this weekend, I thought I was going to have to cut my losses and just stop working on it because I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish. Good luck to everyone finishing up tonight.

On the application, for “List your main areas of intellectual interest” do they just want a straight up list, or more of a paragraph?

If it says list…I list.

list. long list, concise list, it’s all fine. i put two things.

I listed as well.
Also just submitted my app… now just have to wait until March I guess… which actually isn’t too long of a wait, when you think about it.
Good luck to everyone submitting!
The good thing about this process is I’ve gotten much less attached to the idea of going to TASP this summer, so now when I get rejected I won’t feel nearly as bad about it :)

If we submit our application between 12AM to 3AM (from the east coast here), do we sign the date as 01/24 anyway? D:

i hope so! i just got home from mock trial (MY TEAM WON!) and i still need to finish some essays… =/

What do you say for book titles? Italics are out, so quotes or just plain text? I’m reluctant to do either.

EDIT: I should probably mention I’m referring to an essay, not the list.

aarelle, I went with plain text, much as it pains my soul. It just seems so…naked…

Eesh…four hours…I am NOT feeling good about my essays :-O

submitted!!!
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
my conflict essay turned out being the one I liked best, after rewriting it (yesterday and today) about 7 times… anyway, good luck everyone else
also, I just realized I didn’t format my book title (in the essay - I didn’t put it in quotes because I had it underlined in the word document). I don’t think it’s a big deal though, I’m sure they will be understanding with formatting given the only option was plain text.

well that’s a big load off my shoulders, in any case

SSP application, anyone? haha.

Ahh, my usual procrastination has of course created a burden for another 4 hours. :(

Hey everyone!

Btw, how did everyone do their short essays on the pluses/minuses of each program? Like… I know my order of preference. I’m just not sure if the few sentences I wrote for each is enough D:

trekker, from what I’ve heard, that essay is not a major issue in your admission and is more to place you in a program if you get in… so what you have is probably just fine.

neverending - ok thanks! That’s what I figured… based on the essay FAQ, it kind of seemed like the forgotten essay from Telluride’s perspective… but now, at the last minute, I’m starting to freak out about possibly not noticing something. XD haha

4 hours left, 3 conclusions and one essay (number 5 though) still in need of writing
let’s see how this works :P

EDIT: also, everyone, what sorts of things did you all list under “Recent honors and awards”?

will tasp get angry at a controversial opinion you take. like are there no go opinions?

because it does say Education, DEMOCRACY, and service

californianbeast - I don’t think so. I’ve heard from some people that TASP expects you to go into territory you wouldn’t normally consider appropriate for say, a college essay. And I think they enjoy controversy too :)

These are probably asinine questions, but if someone could clarify (I saved the short parts for last haha!)

What exactly are areas of intellectual interest? Like subjects I find interesting?
and
Should I include volunteer work in the “activities and interests” also if I consider it pretty substantial?

@Somestudent2:

-Straight from the FAQ on the TASP website:
“Should I explain my areas of intellectual interest? What should I include?
The “intellectual interest” prompt in Part I asks only for a list, not for explanations. Your essays will give you a fuller opportunity to show us how you engage with your interests. Your list should contain subjects and topics you enjoy thinking about, discussing, and exploring; it should not be a list of your favorite courses in school. Feel free to define “intellectual” broadly: what is it that stimulates your mind? You should be prepared to discuss any of these topics in your interview.”

-I included my volunteer work in the Activities section as well…

Whew, the euphoria of being done. Feels good. Good luck everyone.

oh procrastination:
1: 60%…restarted with different book (its okay if its a book i read outside of school and I love, but we ended up talking about in school anyways yea?)
2: 0%
3: 100%
4: 100%
5: 10%
6: 100%
oh the joy…
