Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2011

To skyline: I’m pretty sure they can cover all transportation costs if you ask. And if finances are a serious issue, I believe you can also ask for a $500 work stipend.

As for my TASP anxiety, it was pretty bad for a while after my interview (for some reason the post-interview nerves didn’t kick in until a couple of days after it was over - I suppose as time passed I kept thinking of more things I could have done better) and I sometimes get nervous when I think about it too much, but aside from that I’ve pretty much calmed down. I’m sure my stomach will be in knots once early May rolls around, but right now I’m just sick of not knowing what I’m doing this summer.

Though I wouldn’t exactly say the factota mentioned earlier “let us run wild and were terrible at discipline,” it is true that factota definitely vary in discipline and stress on different aspects of the program. Some past factota (according to TASP lore) took the “exclusive relationship” business to a really absurd level in my opinion, while I’ve heard others were quite lax about the rule. To say either is the norm would be false.

As for money issues, the Telluride Association is dedicated to making sure all admitted to TASP will not have to consider finances when deciding whether or not to attend the program (which, if you’re sane, should be a very easy decision). I personally received one of the stipends to attend after explaining to them that I’d normally work during the summer to support myself. I didn’t ask for them to cover transportation since I found an absurdly cheap round trip flight and booked early, but I think the same goes for that stipend. PLEASE don’t let finances be a concern.

@embeezy: Thank you for your comment. I will definetly be applying to both the flight and stipend (that is if I get in…)

Anxiously waiting for the days to pass~ Since last year got their notice on the 26th, I’m guessing it will be around the same time as well. sooo less than a week!

It seems to always come after a weekend where they make the decisions… so possibly next Tuesday? D: Slowly getting more freaked out you guys… T^T

Wouldn’t that be nice/nerve-wracking? Unfortunately/luckily I doubt anything will happen right after a holiday weekend so two weeks from now seems like a safer bet.

I think it will likely be Monday or Tuesday the 25th/26th when we hear, based on previous years.

jrm does hold a valid point though haha. I guess we’ll find out soon enough D:

I suspect it will be around May 1st. Don’t they meet to make the decisions in the last week of April, and then release them from the 1st to 2nd?

Hmmm…seems since 2007–far back as I am able to go–they have always released the decisions the last Mon/Tues of April. This will be this coming Mon/Tues. I understand the Easter thing…but it would be a week later than prior years if they put off releasing decisions to Mon/Tues of May 2/3. My interviewer told me by end of April I will here. Maybe she was guessing.

My interviewer said by May 1st.

Same here.

My interviewer said that they’re creating the short list this weekend, so I’m assuming next weekend they’ll get together to determine who is definitely getting into the program and then we’ll know either way by May 1st or 2nd.

Thanks. I am surprised they are doing decisions on a Sunday though. Usually it is a Monday or Tuesday. The other person I know who applied to TASP and got an interview with a different interviewer than mine was also told he would hear by end of April with decisions. I wonder why all of the staff is not on the same page. Maybe they are doing it in waves this year.

On a (hopefully) less tense note, how’s school for ya guys?

I’m super nervous for the results. I really wanna get in, and I also don’t really have a back up plan. LOL.

As for school, it’s really stressing since APs&SAT II are coming up :(

I hear you on APs and SAT IIs. Luckily I’m taking both US History exams and I have some overlap with AP Lang and the Lit SAT II (although I still have to study for them separately…I should probably get on that).

Yeahhhh I’m nervous for APs too haha ohhhh mannn D: I need them 5s…

They could be deciding our fates right now… O_O

They probably are making decisions right now. :x
On a different note, what APs are you guys taking?

They probably are not. Today is a holiday.

Hopefully they did it yesterday then haha and I am taking AP Calc BC, Stats, Language Composition, and US History
