Won’t matter. Spend a few days or weeks on the paper to get an A. Get it done before school starts (ideally by the end of May) even though you get a year to complete it. Not sure how you thought you would be graded for the independent study if you weren’t producing any product - just working on research makes sense for a RA job but academic credit often requires a deliverable.
