Texas A&M Class of 2028 Official Thread

I’m trying to stay positive also especially around my daughter. I also agree the FAFSA thing could be an issue. I hope they anticipate a lot of last minute withdrawals since some students will choose other schools who offer more.
The secondary issues are a problem with roommate selection at her backup school. We also need to give more consideration to her 3rd choice school since we have new information that is making it a better option. A few weeks ago we could have flown but ticket prices went from the 300’s to the 700’s and now we may need to drive from Katy to Arkansas.

The way I framed it with my kid was – the bad news is you didn’t get an acceptance today. The good news is you didn’t get PSA today either. :slightly_smiling_face:

What I’ve telling myself is that the only reason this is so drawn out is because they are trying their damnedest to get the options group in. I don’t know what the internal metric is that they’re looking for, but it’s the only real explanation that fits what we’re going through. If they KNEW they couldn’t fit us, then it would have been quite the common courtesy to just PSA us so we could move along with our lives.

Our backup plan is set. The practical stuff is bugging us (like housing), but that will work itself out. The not knowing is just killer. We’re now 7 months post application.

Again - I just have to believe the delay here is that they’re trying to get everyone in. If that’s not the tie that binds, then this whole thing is just cruel.

It’s the lack of information that creates hallucinations for all of us

Honestly, it was the false hope that created more problems. We were all going about backup planning when we got that info from the Dallas TAMU advisor.

I completely agree. It’s a puzzle to fit all the options students into TAMU-CS. I think it is a puzzle they are trying to solve.

Agree… I got my daughter excited because she got the options and told her she would know in two or three weeks and she started looking for roommates and all that jazz… I really feel like I let her down here by creating false hope

Before we got the three options, my son had come to the conclusion himself that he really wanted to be down in the College Station area so if he didn’t get in/got PSA, he would do a year at Blinn first…so PTA is our backup option. He’s very bright (great test scores and AP scores of 3-5 on each of the 5 tests he’s taken so far), but I think now is finally seeing the consequences of not listening to mom all through high school on turning in all his stuff on time which impacted his grades and kept him out of top 10%. Here’s hoping he learned that valuable lesson now when it didn’t have a financial impact.

I wonder if we will ever truly know the various complexities that the AO had to manage within this year (aka the fully story). I feel like the lesson learned is that we may have historical data but unless you’re working in the AO, all we are doing is using our best information to put a guess out there. Don’t beat yourself up… we’re all learning and in the same boat. Stay strong and let’s hope for the best for all our kids.

I think PTA is a great option. Paying less for each hour, smaller classes, more individualized attention- perfect for the first year or two in college. I haven’t really explored that idea with my daughter, but it is an option we should seriously consider! And doing it in College Station means she wouldn’t have to move between freshman and sophomore year.

“I can confirm Team decision has not been released yet. Decisions are made and stored in batches pending release, but not released yet. They may or may not follow the March date but will release in large batches.

I feel sorry for many students and parents waiting. At this nervous time, I can only suggest everyone ignores any off the chart news, or from newly joined member, or someone hearing from somebody’s friends.” @FriscoDad

I think about this statement a lot, and wonder what changed since now and 2 weeks ago. Not much really, just a lot of hear say. Perhaps, we’re so starved by the lack of updates that we did exactly what Frisco warned us about.

Just an FYI - Facebook (all of Meta, from what I’ve read) is down. So for all of us checking for extra info there, we are on an involuntary time out ;).

My FB is down too. Thought it was just mine. Thanks for posting!
