@connections and @soozievt both described situations which I was implying with my comment that “you will know when it’s time to crank out some personal contact and you should when it happens.”
If you do it every time and for every interaction it may require an awkward and time consuming interruption to be sure you get all of the names. This is the part that “could hurt” when the thinking is that sending them couldn’t hurt.
