I think the wine cooler could also be used during the Christmas holidays.
We could make a couple of them each one decorated differently.
I’ve got foodie friend who entertains often. I may make her a shorter one as a gift, give it to her at T’giving. Just have to figure if she has freezer space til she uses it.
Also saw a tip on one of the food shows about using your cooler to keep hot dishes hot. They said your food should stay hot for almost 6 hours. I never would have thought of that.
I also liked the tip of making a thin slit around a potato before boiling. Afterwards place in cool water and then it is easier to peel of the potato skin.
Ok, so besides the apples blossoms we are going to attempt to make brookies to give out to friends and family over the holidays. (brownie/cookie)

Those cookies sound yummy, raclut.
I’ve been wanting to try this cookie recipe - half snickerdoodle, half gingersnap:

@doschicos Now I am confused. I like your recipe too.
I am willing to be a taste tester.
I think based on these recipes we can mix any two flavors to make a cookie.
I could also do this in a cupcake pan maybe with liners to make them look like cupcake cookies.
Maybe we need a new thread for holiday cookie recipes/desserts.
Feel free to visit with those of us who are on The Great British Baking Show thread Many of us have been watching on PBS and now we are to be rewarded with a 4 week American special series on ABC beginning on Monday, November 30. I’ve seen some pretty yummy cookies on the special and suspect the recipes will have more mass and practical appeal than what we’ve been viewing from in the UK tent. A new thread might be in order!
Is the 4 week series a spin off of The Great…??? Sounds like something I would enjoy.
Yes, @abasket, it is. Mary Berry is going to be the judge, although the presenters will be different and we won’t have Paul.
I just hope the recipes are not to complicated for me. Looking forward to watching this show.
@JAM113 - We heated up a cooler this summer by putting very hot water in it and then dumping it out. We were bringing about 50 baked potatoes to a cookout. It worked so well that we had to put a sign on the cooler to warn people about the hot steam that emerged when you opened the cooler. The potatoes stayed hot for hours.
@onward I would have never thought of that. Amazing that it works so well.
@onward, how did you cook 50 baked potatoes, did you shove them all in your oven at the same time? Great idea for a cookout. I’ll keep that one in mind for the future.
We cooked them all at once. We couldn’t have put one more in! I think it took an extra 15 minutes of cooking. Pricking them all, so they wouldn’t explode, took a bit of time.
It’s finally here, the week of Thanksgiving and the race to the stores to get the best deals on holiday gifts.
This year has sure flown by fast. I am sure many of you are looking forward to kids coming home from school if they are away and family and friends coming into town to celebrate Thanksgiving together. I hope whether you are hosting Thanksgiving or traveling somewhere else to celebrate that it is an enjoyable time for you and your family. I know things can get hectic and at times seem stressful but try to enjoy each moment as best as you can. Life isn’t always perfect but we just have to be thankful for the things we sometimes take for granted.
I couldn’t end this post without posting this SNL skit about Thanksgiving Dinner.

Everyone in my family, including the extended family, loves stuffing/dressing. I’ve got a new idea this year to make an oatmeal based stuffing instead of cornmeal or bread-based (white flour). I’ll keep the consistency of the oatmeal wet but kind of doughy, and add vegetable stock (onion, carrot, celery) and chicken stock. Any other ideas for this recipe?
@lakewashington So it would be a savory oatmeal stuffing? I would add some herbs to it if you are putting it in the turkey.
Was there an inspiration for your oatmeal stuffing? It reminds me of haggis – which could be a good thing or bad thing depending on your perspective.
@LakeWashington - Are you still going to make a traditional stuffing as well and have 2 or are you going with just the new stuffing? To me, Thanksgiving isn’t a time for experimentation. My family, at least, likes the tried and true as they look forward to it all year.
How about a rice or quinoa stuffing? Those are good.
