Aren’t they always? I’m not a huge movie goer but whenever I do go I automatically assume about 20 minutes for previews (not that I want them that long, but I’ve come to expect it).
I agree! Sometimes after watching a preview, I think “Why would I go to that movie? I basically just saw it.”
i find if there is a preview where I want to see the movie, I have to look away. They do give away so many good lines.
I just saw Joy and really enjoyed it. Before I went into didn’t even know what it was about. I figured when they went to qvc it was about Joy Mangano. Hubby had never heard of her. I was surprised how much Melissa Rivers looked kike her mom. Being a business owner when it seems the country is anti self made people, that it’s somehow all luck or privelege, it’s refreshing for me to see. Especially since the idea of a product or service is just the beginning, I’m glad they showed that.
Our local theater now has reserved seating only, so you can actually skip the previews. They were indeed a full 20 minutes. We didn’t see previews for animated Disney movies I don’t think. Two for Apocalypse sci fi, one World of Warcraft and one or was it two Marvel movies. None of them looked very good. DH suggested Carol a few weekends ago, but it was only playing in NYC so we didn’t go. It’s very rare that I get to see chick flicks in a house dominated by boys.
Oh my, I think I’m the only person who didn’t love Spotlight. I found it a little boring, don’t shoot me. I can’t seem to really love a movie lately for some reason. Haven’t seen Star Wars or Joy yet.
Just saw Brooklyn and loved it. Would like to see the Big Short, Spotlight and Joy.
Saw a preview for Race (coming in Feb) about Jesse Owens which looks like it should be outstanding.
Earlier, I said I was glad we were going to see The Big Short even though I didn’t know much about it until a day or 2 before we went, and I was, indeed, glad that I saw it! What a creative, intelligently done movie. The acting was great, too. I wish they had shown a little more of the family of a couple characters–just a few more glimpses–but that’s my only real complaint. Oh, and having to see strippers… Blech. However, those scenes were brief, and one was humorous.
It’s been a great movie run the past couple weeks!
I definitely recommend Spotlight. It is extremely well made, great ensemble cast. For me the best film that I’ve seen this year although I haven’t yet gotten to see Brooklyn, Carol, The Big Short or Joy. Will see one of those late afternoon/early evening on New Year’s Eve. Younger d requested Star Wars for Christmas Day and I really enjoyed it. It brought back the original three movies especially the first which is now #4. Other movies I enjoyed this year Bridge of Spies, The Martian and Mr. Holmes.
I saw Sisters with D and her fiancee. Funny, but very raunchy. I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it to anyone. Saw Star Wars last night and Spotlight tonight with S & his wife. Loved them both. I think Spotlight is one of the best films I have seen in quite some time. I really want to see Brooklyn, but it hasn’t made it to our small city yet.
Saw The Big Short tonight. Fantastic.
I’ve seen some previews for the Big Short, and it looks awful, just awful. I don’t even see how all the big stars can save it. Could the previews have been so much worse than the movie? Usually the previews show the best part.
" Other movies I enjoyed this year Bridge of Spies, The Martian and Mr. Holmes."
Haven’t seen Mr. Holmes, but thought Martian was great. Bridge of Spies was just awesome, Tom Hanks is the best. We really liked that movie, so intriguing.
I also loved The Martian and liked Bridge of Spies. Perhaps we have similar tastes and you’d like The Big Short, @busdriver11
Just saw The Big Short and thought it was fantastic. Read the book and was skeptical of the movie, but really enjoyed the adaptation. Of course, I am now outraged all over again!
If you liked “The Big Short,” I suggest seeing “Margin Call.” The acting is wonderful (actors include Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Stanley Tucci, Demi Moore, Simon Baker, and Jeremy Irons). And for those who liked “Bridge of Spies” and would like to see more of Mark Rylance, look for the BBC version of “Wolf Hall.”
Margin Call is a great movie. I would definitely recommend. Also a big fan of Wolf Hall.
