Again I don’t agree. Kids who have no interest or only passing interest in being in high school aren’t kids who tend to sign up for rigorous classes. You can have rigorous classes without the branding. I was shocked to read here a couple years ago that there were schools using the AP materials and not even requiring kids to take the requisite final SP exam. Those are the types of AP situations where kids that shouldn’t be in the class will take the class…because there is not accountability other than what that teachers decides they will give as a grade. For me, that is the worse possible implementation because then you are paying to use the AP name but aren’t even requiring the work from the student that supposedly represents the “value-add” of these class curriculum.
