The Best 13-inch Laptop for....

@BunsenBurner - That’s what I intend to do unless I can get a whole lot cheaper elsewhere during this coming Black Friday sale. Costco does offer other incentives, too, that are sweet.

@youcee - Yes! A great move on HP’s part!

Check the specs for the HP Spectre x360 13 inch. It’s a step up from the Surface Pro, which I have and adore, but for frequent travel I prefer the hard shell, aluminum case of something like a Surface Book or the Spectre x360, which is a Surface Book competitor at a lower price point.

If you want lots of USB slots, look for the 2016 models in Natural Silver. Later ones came with a pen; earlier ones did not. Price point will be lower than the 2017s.

If you don’t care about the ports, look for the 2017 models in Dark Ash.

Might be some 2018s soon, but I don’t know anything about specs, price or availability on those.

ETA: LOL - looks like lots of us like the x360. Checking out the links now…

@TiggerDad Unfortunately, Costco has never had the HP Spectre. I have seen the Dell XPS there and there are some pricy ones on their website now. I bet around Black Friday is a lot better.

Hmm… I was in Costco today, and I noticed that the same Dell 13" XPS with the spec that I noted in my first post went down in price by $200. It was $1,499.99 about a week ago, and it’s now $1,299.99.

Well, Costco today announced an early Black Friday sale at $1,299.99 for the following Dell XPS 13 Touchscreen laptop. I decided to go ahead and purchase it for now in case they run out of it, but I’m going to leave the package unopened in case I return it within their 90-day return policy on computers:

Processor & Memory: 8th Gen Intel® Core i7-8550U Processor 1.8GHz
16GB LPDDR3 1866MHz RAM

Drives: 512GB PCIe Solid Drive Drive

Operating System: Microsoft® Windows 10 Home (64-bit)

Communications: Killer 1535 Wireless-AC + Bluetooth 4.1

Graphics & Video: 13.3" Touchscreen InfinityEdge QHD+ (3200 x 1800) Display
Integrated Graphics

Keyboard: Backlit Keyboard

Ports & Slots: 2x USB 3.0 (1x With Power Share) 1x Thunderbolt 1x Headset Jack 1x SD Card

Power Supply: 60 WHr Battery

Dimensions: 11.98" x 7.88" x 0.33 - 0.6" Approximate Weight: 2.7lbs

I’m not 100% happy with the screen (wanted IPS matte screen) and the specs, but for the price I can live with this, I think. HP Spectre 13" I’ve been comparing it to also doesn’t come with the IPS matte screen and the word is that it will not be on Black Friday sale nor would Surface Book 2. I think Surface Book 2 still has some struggles with its reliability. It cost a whole lot more than either XPS or Spectre. It also weighs more than one lbs than the Dell XPS. I also didn’t like that it’s top heavy and detachable. Otherwise, it sure looks ideal for photo and video editing.

You can open and use the computer. Costco did not charge us any “restocking” fees for returning a computer we opened and did not like. Just check their current return policy so it is still the case.

I know that. I just don’t want to customize everything and then have to delete or fragment everything. Too much hassle. I already have a laptop, so I can wait a week.

Agree that Costco us OK if you open and check out things and still choose to return it before their 90 day window expires with NO restocking or other fee.

Well, I saw this new Black Friday sale item at Costco today, and I think I’m going to return my previous Dell XPS laptop and settle for this, instead. For Photoshop and video editing, this is better since this has IPS and 2GB NVIDIA GeForce MX150 Graphics card. It’s $200 cheaper, too:
