The Bragging Thread

This is kind of dumb, but I constructively set a boundary with a guy from my online workout group to quit depending on me for information about whether we have class. Msg the instructor if you have a question. I don’t need another person under my charge, thank you. I said it nicer than that.

He gives me the creeps so I really want some distance. I wish he didn’t have my number, but he lives two time zones away so I don’t think he’s a threat or anything. But I’m proud of myself for saying something rather than just ignoring his texts.

Good for you, but I think it’s also totally fine to block him. Enough is enough, especially if it’s not just bothersome but creepy feeling.

Yes, sometimes we override our instincts, but we really should try to honor them. People may be giving off subliminal creepy vibes that we don’t articulate but subconsciously notice. The guy who wrote “The Gift of Fear” wrote about that and how it can be lifesaving to honor your instincts.

I’m proud of myself! We are having the 20th anniversary of our nonprofit. We decided we wanted to gift logo items to the attendees of our meeting this year (we have been having these annual meetings with guest speakers since 2007). The board members agreed up a 12 oz cotton canvas bag in natural color with our logo added. It was originally quoted at about $2 per item, plus set up charge to add logo, plus tax, plus shipping. Shipping quotes I was receiving was $250-350. I found another company online which quoted me $1.74 per item, plus $50 one time charge to set up and no tax because we’re a nonprofit. They also worked me to lower their shipping from $250 to $150+ and then I asked them what if they mailed the box to NYC and then I had someone bring it to me from NYC? They then dropped shipping charge to <$40, so net price per item is <$2!

Anyway, after all this legwork, that was my good deal for our event! I’m very pleased as none of my other board members even got quotes of any items they wanted to hand out and only told me they wanted a pouch with a zipper. All of them at the meeting liked this item best.

Also applied to Canva.com to see if we can get the free nonprofit membership (we just have a free one now but doesn’t have the deluxe features that only come if you pay a monthly fee OR if you get special nonprofit free pro membership).

Y’all, the guy who I wrote about four days ago texted me AGAIN this morning to ask about whether we had a workout. UGH. I bragged too soon! lol I wrote back:

”Just saw this as I was on the treadmill because I LOOKED at the sign-up sheet and saw no class was scheduled. You should reach out to (trainer) if you have questions.”

Is that direct enough???

How about, “You’ve reached the unofficial Workout Information Hotline. This service has been permanently discontinued. Please contact your instructor for all future schedule questions.”

@Youdon_tsay my suggestion is…stop responding to this creepy guy. Just ignore his texts. If he persists, then block his number.

@thumper1 ‘s suggestion is better/safer than mine. Take her advice.

If he responds I’ll see what he says. I thought my next move would to block his number and to let the trainer know about the situation just so she is aware of the dynamic.

My husband is too humble.

He’s a great coach, but he’s not a professional coach. Just coached local rec and club teams. Nothing fancy. No flying kids in. Worked with what he had. He coached my S23’s Cal Ripken team. They won districts at 9 and set a goal to get better each year. And they did. The next year they won States, the year after states and runner ups at Regionals. And when they were 12, they year it counted, they won States and Regionals. They ended up winning their way to the World Series and did pretty well. It was a really great experience.

He coached a lot of the same kids (and many others) on club teams all the way through high school. He’s had 3 kids go on to pitch in the College World Series, with 2 being the winning pitchers and one of them just got drafted by the MLB. While my husband doesn’t take any of the credit, all of those kids have said to him in the past that he was the coach that taught them from the beginning most of the things that made them better players.

Ds2 has a cut on a new album that dropped today. This is an artist I’m guessing not a lot of people on cc have heard, but he has 1.5M monthly Spotify listeners so he’s reasonably successful. And this weekend one of ds2’s songs is being pitched on a tour bus to an artist everyone on here has heard of for an album dropping this fall. Fingers crossed, y’all.

Just wondering, when you are on this online class, do you see each other on the screen? I am asking not because I wonder whether he is oogling you but rather if it’s possible that he may have his own challenges or issues? So you could either ignore his request or say politely “ I would prefer that you ask your questions directly to the instructor so this will be my last response to your messages. Thank you for understanding.”

It’s Zoom so that’s certainly an option, but most people leave their squares with just their name or with some kind of avatar. He does regularly pop on at the end to thank the trainer, and he’s sweaty and shirtless. It’s one of the things that creeps me out. Oh, and that’s not a commentary on his body or anything. It’s just like Flip Wilson’s Geraldine says “ You don’t know me that well!” :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Hero daughter saves another life!

D1 did her first solo cricothyrotomy last night. Another doctor was treating a patient who was having a severe, life-threatening respiratory blockage/spasm. Their upper airway was completely filled with secretions that prevented them from breathing. The other attending physician on duty attempted and failed 3 times at intubating the patient and called anesthesiology to come down to the ER to intubate the patient. However, the patient’s O2 saturation was down to 47% and their heart rate was under 20 beats per minute. The patient would die in the 8 minutes it takes the on-call anesthesia resident to get to the ER. So the charge nurse asked D1 (the senior attending) if she was going to cric the patient and D1 said, “Hand me a scalpel.” It was over and done before the anesthesiologist got there.

D1 said it was just like you see it on The Pitt. It went very fast and she was done before she really had a chance to think about it.

Patient is alive and was transported to the ICU for treatment.

Cricothyrotomy is a rare procedure (despite what you see on medical shows!), occurring in only about 0.14 to 1.4% of all ER airway emergency cases nationally in a given year.

WOW congrats!!

I didn’t save a life, but this is a different kind of miracle. I did manage to throw a bowl in my third pottery wheel class.

The pottery wheel is a very tough thing to master - good job.

Update on the cric patient.

They were successfully treated for their underlying condition which relieved the pressure of all the fluids that were preventing them from breathing. The trauma team removed the trach tube yesterday afternoon. The surgeon who removed the tube said the cric was textbook perfect and the patient suffered no damage or injury from the emergency procedure. No vocal cords were damage, no hemorrhaging occurred, and there was no damage to any of the underlying structures of the throat. The patient is expected to fully recover.

D1 said she had several people come down to the ER last night to ask if she really did a cric the night before and congratulated her on successful procedure. The ENT who had treated D1 last year when she was critical ill with epiglotitis specifically came by to tell D1 she did a great job.

Thanks. It’s doubly hard being left handed and doing things in reverse of what the teacher demonstrates. She did help Me cut the top. We were supposed to be doing cylindrical Vases
