The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

congratulations to your D @ac2680 ! @actorparent1 has a freshman attending Hartt for Acting, so I’m tagging her here in case she can answer your questions.

@NYart15 D received an email on 12/14 and an official letter (mail) on 12/24. Best of luck to your D!!
@CaMom13 Thank you!!

@ac2680 thank you!!!

@ac2680 My S also received the letter and two scholarships from Hartt with invite to Honors program from the Dec. 8th audition. He auditioned for acting only. I know past threads made it sound like students would not receive an academic scholarship with the talent one, but the letter is clearly stated that both scholarships would apply. We are very happy with the offer and he is excited about investigating the acting program more!

@songbird17 Congratulations to your son! It sounds like my D received a similar letter for MT - we are also very happy and grateful for the offer. We were really impressed with Hartt’s program and the opportunities available with The Hartford Stage & Goodspeed Musicals.

@ac2680 and @songbird 17, that’s fantastic! In previous years it was indeed the case that Hartt students were only eligible for talent scholarships, but it sounds like they may have changed that policy this year, if your acceptance letters included both talent AND academic scholarships! I’d say call the school to double check, and then report back here what they say! But it sounds promising!

Congratulations to all on your acceptances! I wish you and your D/Ss luck and happiness as we wrap up 2018 and forge ahead in 2019! Happy holidays to all!

Thought I would check in again…since here it is December 28th…and still have heard nothing from USC who state they would make contact in December. Hmmmm…not feeling like good news is brewing…but wondering if others have heard anything. New program…wondering…thanks!

@luvbloominroses still nothing from USC for my daughter either. I will post if she hears from them!

Hi all.

Starting this process now for DD who is halfway through her junior year of HS. Spent last night reading all 108 pages of this thread, gaining appreciation for the highs & lows & interminable waiting associated with this lottery process.

We are trying to get a jump because a very talented kid we know was shut out of most opportunities due to dawdling until “regular” application season.

We have told DD that her prescreens and common app essay have to be in the can before she leaves for summer programs so that we can file applications as early as possible–that seems to be one thing that can be done to get in the early prescreen buckets.

Still pretty hard to get DD to focus on the big questions with upcoming performances, conventions, and, oh yeah, regular school. So far we have gotten “conservatory program in/near big city outside the south (we are in TX) with active theater scene…” so that narrows it down :)). We have filmed other auditions, but not ones with so much on the line.

Appreciate all the sharing and information on the board. BAL to all for upcoming auditions and admissions.

@luvbloominroses Still no word from USC on our end either.

@MTisNutz if you want the full picture read thread of MT Final Decisions for class of 2022 (pretty sure there are previous years too) the entire process for each student is shared. If you get prescreens done during the summer you win a gold star! That is everyone’s goal but somehow never happens! And just a warning - the common app essay is just the warm up - every school had additional essays :(( getting started in August is the key to a less stressful November!

No word from USC here either. It says they would notify a few people. Does that mean they are not notifying if you are not getting an audition? Has anyone on here heard from USC?

@MTdreamz Thanks. Looking over that thread, the outcomes of this all consuming process seems so…random. Almost like the plot of so many musicals “happy endings happening by happenstance.”

Finishing a gazillion essays will challenge a loquacious perfectionist, but might serve to trim/focus her list. She knows the numbers but has yet to experience them up close & personal.

Wondering if you get a no based on a prescreen, are you able to do a walk in if available?

Congratulations to all the kids and parents here! Also still waiting on USC here too. DD has gotten no thank yous from Pace, Ithaca, Emerson, UMich, CMU and TXST We are the poster child for why everyone should do prescreens early - doing them in late November during a stretch when she was fighting cold/cough/sore throat junk did not pan out well for us. Looking forward though. She has Chicago auditions with CCPA, Rider, Webster, Viterbo, Montclair, UNC and U North Dakota scheduled. Have not heard from Otterbein, Penn, USC or Yale (the only acting program she applied to). She wasn’t able to get on the BW audition schedule but is waitlisted, and she has been accepted into the program at the 2 schools in our state with BFA MT programs - Central Washington U and Pacific Lutheran U
What a stressful fall this has been!

@Classof23MTmom sounds like a tough few months but congrats on 2 BFA acceptances! Congrats to all others with the early acceptances & here’s to a happy new year !

@MTisNutz Have you considered using the College Audition Coach? She is out of TX and now would be an ideal time to start with her.

@artsmomof4 We are considering. DD’s Voice coach of 6+ years who has gotten kids into many programs around the country has provided mixed reviews. DD’s friend (also same voice coach) was a moo client last year and wound up at OKCU. DD has a regional bias against OKCU but that is probably one of the best places for her. She is a strong dancer who is also being encouraged by music people to consider straight BM in VP. Nobody in our stable has current awareness of the MT scene and all encourage her in their discipline only. So probably need to add one of the audition coaches with a holistic view and also to cure DD of some of her preconceived notions—the whole “wide net” thing.
