"THE" CMU 2015 CHANCE Thread-- Please STOP creating New chance Threads

There is a difference between not telling the truth and lying. They may not officially re-calculate your GPA but in their mind they might alter their impression of you from an academic standpoint. By doing that, they are treating you differently, essentially they are re-calculating the GPA, but there is no official record of such an action taking place. That is one possibility - don’t take everything admissions officers say at face value.

kinda random question but…

does CMU use Math Lvl 2 score as an indicator of your math SAT score. cause i got a 770 on the subject test but only a 720 on the math of the SAT. btw im gonna be applying EDII for HSS (no idea if that makes a difference)…

Your 720 on the math section of the SAT is actually probably a better score.
720 on SAT math section is 95th percentile
770 on Math II subject test is only 81st percentile (admittedly with a somewhat self-selected population taking the test)

oh ok i didnt know that, thnx.

btw do u feel my math SAT score (or my SAT score in general; CR:670 Math:720 W:630) is decent enough for CMU HSS EDII? i plan on retaking the SAT to raise my 2020 to maybe a 2100.

So… I got a 620 on SAT math…
BUT! an 800 on sat reading…
Likelihood?

How important is essay score for CIT?

D got 11 at May test but screwed up math (690). March test she got 800 for math but 7 for essay.

Which score she should send? For CIT.

how difficult is it to get into Tepper relative to the other colleges?

between Judo, Kumon, Tae Kwon Do, translation and Korean SAT scores, you have the most asian resume I have seen in forever. Your stats are an excellent match for Tepper though. Good strong leadership abilities and high test scores.

CMU uses a very holistic approach to admissions- don’t give up if one score on your ACT or SAT is lower than the posted median – it really isn’t going to be a deal breaker.

thanks for your two cents, completelykate. i saw you all over the CMU board so it’s reassuring to know that an expert thinks my chance is solid. :).

what can i say? i bleed yellow. ironic thing is, i speak the least bit of korean.

@Jay- What school are you applying to?

CMU is kind like a safety for you, no matter which school you will apply.
Your GPA, rank, test scores, ECs… they are all super!
But, still good luck to your subject tests !

^ I’m gonna take Physics and Chem in Oct., you think I should retake Math II?
I wanna apply either to CIT or SCS. Can you be more specif? Like do I have a good chance or not? if not, then what do I need to do to improve my chances?

Thanks

SCS is a reach because it’s super-selective and not for the faint of heart. If you dig up this year’s 2014 results thread, one kid from MIT got rejected from SCS.

CIT is a fit for you, though I’d say 2100+ makes you extremely solid for admission there.

GPA is good, rank especially which outweighs a bit of your SAT.

All in all, bump up the SAT a bit for CIT and a lot for SCS (like 2250+)

@AvgAsian: Thanks dude. I’m talking the SAT 2 more times. And I’m studying my … off right now for it. I could have got a 2200+, but since it was my first time without practicing I kind of got nervouse.
