let t=number of days till Dec 15th

lim 1/t
t–>0

lol as my friend has put it:

“on the 16th (or 15???), it won’t be a question of drinking or not, but rather one of WHAT i’m drinking: champagne or hard hard liquor” haha jk but so trueeee

gl everyone!

One week…

I am freeakin out mannn

Hmm, I’m actually calm. Maybe it’s because my schedule is pretty busy until then.

yea i have a busy schedule too, but i’m also redonculously nervous

“redonculously” is so underused.

Thanks, wrathofgod. Thank you.

It’s a perfectly cromulent word.

what does cromulent mean?

Ive been listening to so much ****ing music to get my mind off this.

Im wearing out my CDs.

haha.

To distract myself, I’ve been gearing up for my first quiz bowl season ever (it’s our school’s first year offering it) and have been obsessively memorizing random trivia for our tournament next Saturday. Does anyone have any good random academic facts to tell me?

Jli, where is your team going next weekend?

We’re going to White Plains High School next Saturday (we just joined a league), but we’re going to the Half Hollow Hills West Invitational in January. You’re from Long Island, so I assume you know where that is? I am incredibly nervous!!

haha yeah my team is going to both of those. see you there!

White Plains new york…i only happen to know where that is because i listen to beer commercials. mr. way too much cologne man…

Haha no way! What school do you go to? We definitely have to at least meet each other lol

Jli, I’ve been doing Masterminds (same thing as quiz bowl) for four years now, and it rocks.

Hmm… random facts. At the end of last year when we hosted the match, we put up a list of random things we’d learned and other schools added to it. Unfortunately, I don’t have it.

But, my special random tip that actually came up a few matches ago and my team missed it (I wasn’t in that half) is, when in doubt about a city question, guess Alexandria, because there are so many of them. Especially if it has anything to do with learning/colleges/libraries, in which case it’s the famous Alexandria.

My coach wants us to start learning the mascots of sports teams, because teams and where they’re from come up A LOT and we only have one or two kids who know sports.

Douglas Adams and Hitchhiker’s Guide come up in our questions once a year or so.

Make sure you or someone else knows the periodic table. One of our students who was very smart and I think IN chem at the time… guessed insulin as an element. Oops.

Greek mythology occasionally comes up. A lot of the literature questions are random (I’m a big time book person and half the time I don’t know them. Or I’m not in) but classics do come up. Last match we had a question about what Scrooge ate because he liked it and what Oliver Twist ate because he had to. I wasn’t in (I love ACC) and my team missed it. :-(

Wow that’s long. Mind you, my high scoring streak ended in ninth or tenth grade, I’m a bit slow lately and some of the teams we play are amazing: they can answer a question five words into it sometimes. But these are things I’ve picked up over the last couple years. If you read, especially if you read a lot and read the paper, you’ll be fine.

is the answer to the scrooge oliver twist question porridge or is that just so obvious that i’m wrong?

It’s gruel.

same deal. :)
