The Dixie Chicks at their best ... MAD TV style

I don’t believe I’ve done any harping. I find the Dixie Chicks interesting and relevant, and the political brouhaha around them an instructive example of political clashes in this country, so it’s hardly surprising that I’d want to talk about it. If you see me on a thread going on and on about the political statements of Britney Spears and how worthless and stupid she is for saying that we should follow the president no matter what, feel free to call me out.

I am now getting sarcastic PMs about the thread, but I feel the discussion is best had in public. I have nothing to say that isn’t fine for everyone to hear.

“I am now getting sarcastic PMs about the thread, but I feel the discussion is best had in public. I have nothing to say that isn’t fine for everyone to hear.”

What a coincidence… someone is sending PMs to me too. All that after they told me they didn’t feel I posted anything worth reading. To each his own, but if you can’t say it out here, why bother? Are you doing me a special favor by sending me a PM?

I guess all I would ask is that you judge the postings of others as magnanimously as you do your own.

I generally reserve political condemnation for people I think have some kind of political power, either because they work in government or because they have a substantial fan base that is actually swayed by their political statements (Jon Stewart, Bill O’Reilly). But as I said, if you see me insulting any celebrities for their political statements while simultaneously claiming that their opinions don’t matter, I hope you’ll bring it to my attention (particularly if I call them a lot of nasty names).

whatsa, I have two friends and one family member who are librarians. Over the years, they’ve encountered several groups who have organized book-burnings in the U.S. I was visiting one at the time one took place and it was a frightening example of human behavior. That particular one was over Harry Potter books, of all things. The attitudes, overt anger, rhetoric and facial expressions were similar to what I observed in the clips of the Dixie Chicks cd protests. That one I witnessed in person. Similar incidents which I’ve seen reports of over the years have seemed to portray the participants in a similar fashion. My point, once again, is that although, yes, these individuals have the right to protest and to burn their own cds, that doesn’t lessen, in any way, the absolute irrationality of their reaction to that which they’re protesting against.

Sarcastic PMs? I haven’t had one of those yet today! (did get two yesterday though).

No sarcastic PMs received here. Should I feel left out? I have noticed, though, a few ‘new’ posters recently who have something awfully familiar about them.

Noticed the same thing AAM!

I love the irony of a thread whose main discussion topic is free speech, yet also includes little references to new posters who perhaps shouldn’t be here because someone didn’t like something they may have said in the past.

Oh, no! NOT SARCASM!!! Say it ain’t so!!!
