Re: feel of the fabric etc. I like that Nordstrom sometimes has videos of SA’s demonstrating the items. They usually say if fabric has stretch, if there is a full lining, etc. Very helpful. It doesn’t replace touching the fabric of course but still helps eliminate a few items form consideration.
I stopped buying things at Nordstrom Rack because I don’t like to have to pay to return by mail, and our store is PITA to get to, in an area of town that I don’t like. I rarely buy something that’s not free shipping/free returns. 30-days doesn’t bother me because I make the decision right away and ship back within a few days.
I probably buy 98% online now and maybe return 20-30% (mostly shoes that don’t fit). I’m brand loyal and tend to buy things that I know will fit. I’m particular about how things feel too and don’t like the cheap, thin, shiny, slippery-feeling nylon-y fabric that some companies are making t-shirts out of lately. I’m not an Amazon fashion person for this reason. It’s been disappointing to see some of my usual higher end brands making their clothing out of this material but still charging $$$. Those things always get returned.
For me, Nordstrom and Anthropologie have pretty liberal return policies. I’ve even returned final sale items to Anthro for a store credit. Lululemon also has a membership that you can join and return final sale items for store credit.
Timely post, as I just had an annoying experience. I ordered two things from Amazon, came together in one package. I ended up returning them via kohl’s, where the person scanned my return qr code and gave me a receipt. A couple of days later, one i noticed the return credit applied to my amazon account, I threw out the receipt. Six weeks later I just got a notice from Amazon that they were reversing my credit as one of the items was never received. Of course, I no longer have proof of my return, so I’m just out the money. It was a very small purchase (less than $10), so I’m not losing sleep over it, but it did give me pause and I will probably keep my receipts forever moving forward.
@DeeCee36 this happened to me as well (not through Kohls, returned at the ups store). I contacted Amazon and they reissued the credit. I didn’t have the receipt but you could see the original credit being issued on my account. It took 3 tries but finally it was resolved. Like you, it was only a small item, around $20, but it was just the principle.
This happened to a relative but almost $100 worth of stuff. I wish they were clear how long uuu need to hold onto the receipt for as it’s clearly a kohls issue.
It may be a Kohls issue….or not. I can’t even begin to imagine the volume of stuff coming back to Amazon in returns. My case was similar to DeeCee36’s in that there were multiple items in the original shipment and return. I kind of assumed the mix up happened at Amazon and not my UPS store where I dropped off the items.
Order from amazon a lot and usually return at Kohls. Takes just a couple of minutes - of course, I then end up browsing in the store which is exactly what they want
We ordered a rug on amazon recently - big size, came folded in a box. When I had to return that, the UPS store was the only option.
You can always chat with Amazon rep and they will give you credit as a loyal customer based on your words that you returned both items. I try to do returns to Whole Foods mostly because I can see credit right away. Couple times associate did not scan it correctly so I chatted with Amazon right away and got it corrected. You can also chat with them if you are outside of the return window and they will let you return sometimes
That happened to my father-in-law with something from Amazon that he returned through Whole Foods. I try not to use a random retailer for my Amazon returns - I take them to a UPS store. I hate having paper receipts so I take my chances there, unless it’s something over $100.
Same, so my account would always have a record of the shipment.
Separately, for the last few years I’ve been scanning all my receipts into Dropbox via their scanning app. Super easy, once I got into the habit of it…I scan whatever paper receipts I get pretty much every day and then toss or shred them.
