It’s sad but NSMT is in 12th place with 363 votes. The 1st place nonprofit is the Spark center with 2188 votes. All good causes in between. I think we can vote each day & use our multiple emails, but we really need to RALLY Theatre Folk! Feb 6 is the deadline…

THis was my D’s first (and only) equity experience in the Piano Lesson when she was 11.
Very sad

an article on NPR about this subject:

^^^Great article. Thanks for posting it.

I thought this would be a great place to ask this question. H and I have discount tickets to “In the Heights” for a Sunday afternoon show. Any suggestions for brunch or early lunch prior to the show? Open to any type of food.

northeastmom, the Brasserie 1605 at the Crowne Plaza has a very nice lunch menu, and I believe they start serving around 11:30 (they serve breakfast before that). The food and service are good and the view is wonderful. It would be a short walk to the theatre afterwards.

Or if you’d prefer something more like a coffee shop, try the Edison Hotel’s, Cafe Edison, at 47th and Broadway. Decent food and aloof service, but it’s a fun place.

You’re also not far from Restaurant Row on 46th between 8th and 9th.

Enjoy ITH! It’s a great show.

alwaysamom, thanks! The only experience I have had with restaurants in that area is the Marriott Marquis. We enjoyed the buffet there, and that was years ago. Have not been back in years.

If you’re looking for the total Broadway tourist experience, try Ellen’s Stardust Diner on 51st and Broadway. Singing waitfolk in 50’s clothes. Long lines, however, so if you so choose, go early and then window shop til showtime. I LOVED In the Heights. Hope you do too!

snoggie, thanks. I stopped in there once for a cup of coffee. It was okay.

I hope I love the show too! I could not believe that we were able to find such good tickets for such a discounted price! People seem to love this show.

In the Heights is fantastic! Enjoy it! I saw it in December when Lin Manuel Miranda was still in it. I just saw Hair and Billy Elliot…also both great.

This is my alltime fave on 45th and Broadway. Cuban food with a “15 minute menu” if you ask for it. The decor is kind of 40"s and the food and drinks are delish! It’s also quite reasonable. Enjoy “the Heights”!

soozie, good to hear that it is fantastic!

tashmu, thanks for the restaurant recommendation. Don’t know if we will go on this trip, but it will be on my list for future dining options for sure.

northeastmom - we saw “In the Heights” last June after it won the Tony with all of the original cast and my DD and I loved it! It was pouring rain when we came out of the theatre and all the cast came to the stage door and were so nice to my DD and the few others that braved the rain and she got lots of great pictures with the cast.

That’s great, showmom! We have not seen too many shows (a few over the years), so I am glad that I chose one that a lot of people like! I hope that we like it just as much! Frankly, I am shocked to see these tickets so discounted, esp. over the summer when a lot people take vacations and visit NYC.

northeastmom - Last summer we also got discount tickets to “In the Heights.” We bought tickets at TKTS for “Legally Blonde” and “Spamalot” on that trip. I think we only paid full price for tickets to “Gypsy” when we were there.

Showmom, how did you like Legally Blonde? The last 2 shows that I saw were Hairspray and Mamma Mia (enjoyed both of them).

Northeastmom, just so you know, Legally Blonde is no longer playing in NYC but is on tour only.

Ah, thanks soozie. That explains why I could not find discount tickets for it!
