I would look for fiberglass french doors or a fiberglass slider.
Iād go with a new set of French doors. Either fiberglass or wood.
Our exterior projects have begun in earnest this week. Yesterday the garden center delivered and planted a dozen shrubs and trees. Even though they are small they make a huge impact. I also finally got my hanging baskets out and put more annuals in pots. So nice to have more color while we wait for the lilies and hostas to bloom.
Today our new doors and basement window were installed. That was a bit more traumatic. The sunporch door took 5 hours just by itself because they had to rebuild the entire casing and threshold. They did a great job though and Iām so happy we went with a reputable company that was slightly more expensive because it was a ton of work.
We were hoping to mulch and put in our veggie/herb garden this weekend but the forecast is for rain every day
We also need to repaint our front door and do some touch up on our porch where the deicing salt ate away at the paint.
Next up, the re-stuccoing and painting but that wonāt happen until next month, possibly longer because of all the rain.
Plants, even new and small ones, so make a difference!
I want to plant some flowers in my yard but it is where the workers all back and forth a lot so I will have to wait until everything is done. I can never seem to keep flowers alive long in the FL summer heat anyway!
My project is moving along. Floors are totally done, baseboards were finished this morning, kitchen and bar cabinets are up. All that is left now is painting the kitchen (was supposed to be done today but guy called in sick), putting the fridge and ovens in (possible tonight), counters, backsplashes and finally the sink and cooktop.
I was having a hard time deciding what to do for the backsplash for the bar area. The space is ind of an upside down T because there are cabinets all along the bottom and a cabinet on each side up above. The plan was to put two shelves between the upper cabinets. The contractor suggested the tile backsplash all the way to the ceiling. Someone else said just to paint back there. I was trying to imagine just a small amount of tile then paint but there was no obvious spot to stop the tiles.
I asked a friend who knows me well and is good with design and she said maybe some fun tiles instead of plain white or some fun wallpaper. I was so excited because we have always wanted to use a fun wallpaper somewhere but hadnāt found a spot we liked yet. Then I was even more excited because I remembered something my DH has wanted to do forever but again, no spot has been right yet. So I am going to surprise him and yesterday I ordered custom nautical chart wallpaper that will show our favorite spot in Maine. It will take 3-4 weeks, hopefully I can hold DH off when he asks about the plans for that area.
Here is the company we had found years ago and we finally got to use. https://www.nauticalchartwallpaper.com
What a great idea! Love the plan.
@momtogkc That chart will be so much fun.
That wallpaper is cool! $10/sq ft though, for a whole wall that is pretty pricey.
On par with mid-priced tile⦠I would hate to mess up the install of that paper.
@notrichenough That was one reason it took a while for us to find a good spot. DH had wanted to do it in the guest bathroom but the wall was big and it would have been very expensive. This area is much smaller - the total with set up fee and everything was just under $500. More than I planned on spending on tile for sure but not so crazy compared to everything else Im spending.
@BunsenBurner I am thinking the same thing about the installation!!
re doors - big fan of Andersen. which are wood core with a vinyl exterior. We replaced ours 20 years ago and they still look great.

After many tries and multiple purchased samples, we are thinking about going into a different direction. At first, we wanted a wall that would offer a pop of color in our monochromatic bathroom, but the new lots of the pop of color tile turned out to be not so colorful (compared to the sample from the old dye lot we happily chose as āthe tileā). So we are thinking about going with the color scheme that is already present in the bathroom and putting this on the wall, jutst going vertical instead of horizontal. What do you guys think?

The cooler grey will let me repaint the room in a lighter grey color (it is dark beige now).
This is pretty far down on my list, but I am always thinking and planning. In my master bath, there are two entrances and no doors between the bedroom and bathroom. I have a separate āpotty closetā that has the saloon-style swinging door for privacy. I never use these doors since I live alone, but when I have guests (usually just family) they will use them. The doorway to the potty area is only 24". When I remodel this bathroom (again, way down the road), I am contemplating putting a pocket door there. I think there would be enough space to install it in the adjacent wall. Anyone have any experience or advise with new pocket doors?
@BunsenBurner I like that tile! It;s too bad the other tile didnāt look the same as the original.
@musicmom1215 Iām not sure but I will be looking forward to what people say. The door from our bedroom is a horrible plastic accordion flooding thing that looks terrible but there is not really room to put a normal door there because it would always block the closet when it was open.
We have pocket doors to the closet and the toilet room in the master bath. The hardware is the most critical piece of these doors, IMO. It needs to be sturdy so the door would not wiggle and jiggle. When we replaced the ugly, splotchy oak-veneered doors with white ones, I insisted on keeping the hanging hardware because it was working very well (designed to support a 150-lb door!).
Another popular option is a barn-style door - if you have wall space for it.
I despise accordion doors.
@BunsenBurner - I love the tile!
@musicmom1215 Itās difficult to retrofit a pocket door but if the wall is already coming down, then it will work. Barn doors tend to be easier to install if the walls arenāt coming down.
@musicmom1215
re adding a pocket door to a bathroom- you canāt put one in a wall where the toilet or shower vent stack to the roof is located.
But if it is going on another wall, one without those vents, I highly recommend doing it, as long as you order solid wood pocket doors from a door manufacturer, as coralbrook did in one of her flips. I have 4 solid wood pocket doors in my home, 3 of which are in bathrooms, which I will never replace with a standard swinging door.
a cheap, hollow pocket door will warp, will not last or will come off the tract.
I like this tile much better than your first pick - but that is probably because Iām not a fan of pop of color in any room.
Re barn door. Just no! It reeks of Fixer Upper!
I hate the accordion door too but we have never gotten around to changing it and I still want something to keep the light out when I sleep so itās there for now. Only other time I had even seen a door like this was at my college rental house that was in upstate NY - everything was strange up there so it was not as big a deal.
I thought about the barn door, it doesnāt really fit our style but it might be the best option when we ever get around to changing it. I think it might be too much work to add a pocket door, having to rip down the wall and all that. We do have pocket doors in other parts of the house and I love them. Oh well, this is so low down on our list we probably wonāt get to it for a long time.
