While many think that it’s all about the scores it really isn’t.
I have a very interesting story that I wrote, I think it was my personal story and my own struggles that got me in. I have been passionate for a long time about what I want to study (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology) and I made sure that my essays reflected that. I also got SAT Biology Test 760.
In reading some of your blog posts I noticed that you are also a minority in Texas like myself. I wish you the best, so don’t think that going to a top school isn’t impossible. Just be sure you also have a few safety schools in the mix
1950 got me into University of San Diego and Loyola Marymount University for engineering. I wish I could be posting more colleges in the “I got in WITH a 2000+ SAT club” forum though…
@Hopeful-Paleontologist Thank you for the reply! And thanks for taking the time to evaluate me haha! You seem like an extremely motivated, awesome person so I wish you the best of luck at Cornell. That’s awesome haha
I got into UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly SLO (in Engineering) with really low SAT scores. Took it 3 times. October: 600 520 520; November: 580 600 560; December: 550 600 520. (CR/M/W)
SAT-1880
670M, 640R, 570W
ACT-29
Accepted- SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, UCSD, UC Davis, UCLA, Cornell
Waiting on- UC Berkeley and UPenn.
I didn’t think I was even going to be accepted to half of these schools :))
@montse166 Bro what disease did you cure?? Jk but what part of your application do you think helped you get into Cornell?
@darkhound173
I did a lot in my school kinda. It’s a low income area and we don’t have a lot of access to a tone of AP classes and shiznet so I did everything I could. On top of that I was really involved in robotics, I’ve been in a FIRST team for 5 years, and I created the one in my school. Then we did a lot for robotics, and on top of that I had volunteer work, band for 10 years, helped start a few other clubs: freshman tutoring program and earth club. I think my essays really tied everything together though, especially for ivy leagues. I never expected to actually get in, but I’m glad I did Only two more schools and the anxiety is killing me :-SS
@montse166 Wow! Congrats man! You deserve to get in Cornell without a doubt!!! Is Cornell your #1 or?
@darkhound173
It has been since like middle school, but now that I’m being accepted by these schools and am possibly unrealistically hopeful accepted to upenn I’m not too sure? I think it’s mostly that I have to visit and get a feel for the environment and atmosphere. And if it boils down to it I’m just going to the school that gives me the most money because I’m too poor to afford college ^#(^ where are you hoping to go?
@montse166 Oh yeah I understand where you’re coming from. I would love to tour my colleges as well but my family is pretty low-income. I hope to major in business administration and minor in entrepreneurship! I feel like no other job would make me happy other than being my own boss. My dream is to go to University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Emory, or USC, all which I am still awaiting my decisions from. It will be kinda hard since my SAT is on the lower end (1930). Standardized testing is just not my thing!!!
Btw, I think Cornell meets full-need so I am more than sure you will receive a GENEROUS financial package! And what are you trying to major in?
@Ceedub Congrats on Duke! Did you receive a LL? If so, which kind?
@montse166 I’m so happy to hear! I hope you get UCB and UPenn! You definitely deserve Cornell with everything you accomplished! Did you receive an LL from them, apply ED/EA, or?
@fhskid aw thank you ! I hope the college process is going well for you also! I received a BSAI letter and a Latino Student Recruitment Letter from Duke
So many are getting accepted to cornell. I hope i would too!
@Hopeful-Paleontologist @montse166 How did you guys receive your Cornell decisions before Ivy Day? LL? Or did you apply ED?
Congratulations to you two and to everyone else, btw!
That seems really cool! And test scores aren’t everything, I’m sure at the very least one of your top schools will accept you. It really is about your app as a whole.
If I go into cornell I’d be majoring in biology, but for upenn I don’t really know if I’ll get in, so I decided to make it even harder for myself and go under biomedical engineering. Which I highly doubt I’ll get in because I didn’t even take subject tests, but they sent me some mail a few days ago and Im over analyzing it way too much so I have some hope
@fhskid @utkdxb
I received an email a week or two ago inviting me to a diversity program at Cornell to visit the campus. I don’t really know who gets them and exactly why, since going through past forums it shows a variety of people receiving them. But you basically get to visit and stay there overnight for a day, so that seems really cool.
New to the chat. Im so nervous for Ivy Day and Georgetown’s decision, but I am aware that it may not pan out in my favor lol.
Sat: 1850
ACT: 29
SAT 2: US History670, Literature 670
GPA: 4.1
Accepted: UCSD, UCD, SDSU, SFSU, WSU, CSUC
Waitlisted: Cal Poly SLO (applied as microbiology in a whim lol)
Waiting on : Cornell, Penn, Georgetown
Cornell would be a dream to attend. Mu sister graduated from Cornell and I’ve been in love since I was a kid. I would be honored but completely shocked to get into any of the 3 schools Im waiting on.
I’ll probably end up at SDSU if I’m rejected from those school.
Good luck everyone!
Update: I also got accepted into Brown Regular Decision! (Only had a 1920)
SAT:1790
I got accepted to Swarthmore.
Glad to see that with average test scores you can still make it
