Persepolis was great. So glad we read that together, as I never would have picked it up on my own.
Re interim reading, I am halfway through The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer. I think it would have been a good book to discuss – I’m writing imaginary CC posts in my head as I read and wondering what your opinions would be about certain developments in the story.
The bad: A huge tree fell on our house during Hurricane Michael, causing severe damage. We’ve had to move out, and repairs have yet to begin.
The good: I am #3 on my library’s list for Spinning Silver. I look forward to reading something light and uplifting–not my usual fare!
I’m listening to the audiobook of Possession on my commutes this week–on days when I can work rather than deal with contractors and insurance people. My mind is way too jumpy to focus on a print book now. But reading, in one form or another, has always sustained me through times good and bad, of boredom and uncertainty and broken heart and now of natural disaster!
Grateful to be alive, to have a job and insurance and a computer to type this on, and friends in the real world and on CC.
@jollymomma so very sorry to hear your news, Super Storm Sandy is still fresh in our minds here in New Jersey and we watched hurricane Michael with horror.
So wonderful your reading is a source of comfort during these stressful times - days, weeks and months ahead! Hope you like the next selection !!!
Stay strong !
Thinking of you, @jollymomma, and hope the recovery process goes smoothly for you. Escaping into “Possession” sounds like a great idea! We read the book here some time ago and had a great discussion - perhaps @Mary13 can dig up the link and you can read it through when you’re done.
@jollymama so sorry about your house. Wishing you quick and easy repairs.
Possession is one of my very, very favorite books and what got me to jump into the CC book club so I could reread it. We had one of the best discussions. People found all sorts of interesting links to Victorian poetry and poets that had clearly been part of the inspiration for the historical part of the story. Thank you, everyone. @mathmom , I look forward to seeing what our group said about Posssession. I’m enjoying it so much! @Mary13 , I remind myself that my worries are only a corner of a much bigger picture, and the picture includes damage from Florence as well as Michael! But in my little neighborhood … sadly … we seem to have about the worst damage.
