It was soo much more conversational that I had expected it to be. We ended up talking more about our personal lives like family, school (her son graduated from my high school, so she knew a lot of insider info), etc. Obviously we talked about Yale a lot too-- I mainly focused on the residential college life & the whole Yale social experience.

I also mentioned that I am not especially amazing at any one subject (I’m just decent at them all), and she said that wasn’t a bad thing… which surprised me o.0 Apparently, it makes you more “interesting”? Haha, she said something about there being a fine line between genius and autism.

All in all, I think I just got lucky because she was so chill. Despite being a lawyer, she was in a really good mood just because she had gotten a great deal on a purse, just minutes before our interview. Hehe :)

^ Here’s to hoping that my Yale interview next week is that auspicious. Interesting enough, my interviewer is a lawyer as well, though male. Perhaps he’ll have just gotten a great deal on a man-purse moments before I meet him.

@Opensecret- Thanks for your suggestion! That is what I decided to do ultimately.
I just wish my Yale interview would hurry up and come now. I’m crossing my fingers that the alumni here are just a little too lazy and not that I’m not going to get one at all!

Haha same with me, pixie!!
Within about a week or so it’ll be too late to get one anyways, and if you do you’ll know you must be on the border. Which can be good news, I guess?

Had my interview yesterday. One major thing which I think is a learning point (especially if you come from a culture or background where modesty and humility is prized) is to really sell yourself. Of course, don’t go overboard with it, but my interviewer told me that I needed to have done that more, though she did empathize with the fact that I’m not used to doing it.

If it helps, write up some “selling” points before the interview so that you’re ready (erghhh). Lest you sound all rehearsed, but at least you have a framework.

Madshock- I suppose that is true for American students but for Internationals such as me, I’ve heard interviews can get stretched into early december!
But then, I’m from a place where it shouldn’t be too difficult to get alumni, so idk what to think.
Crossing my fingers, toes and hair. ^_^

perfectpixie- my best friend has done yale SCEA too, and she hasn’t got an interview yet either, despite having great scores and a great resume, if that makes you feel better.

^ Kaira, I think there is a positive correlation b/w how soon one submitted his/her application and the promptness of their interview call. That, or no alumni. I don’t think there can be any other reason for the discrepancy in how soon applicants get contacted for their interview.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you had submitted your application way before the deadline isn’t it?
Maybe that is a factor in the process?

I had my interview today. It wasn’t as nerve-wrecking as I thought it was going to be. In fact, he told me that he has never interviewed anyone before me today. I feel special.

Here is something random that he told me. He said that his dean’s son burned down their library because he fell asleep with the candles still lit…interesting right?

When’s the deadline for holding an interview? One of my friends who submitted their application on the last day had his interview already, and one of my friends who submitted his application a week before the deadline had his interview already as well. I submitted mine about 3 days before the deadline. Should I be concerned/email my regional admissions rep?

I really dont understand why everyone panics so much not having heard about an interview. If you get one: great. If you don’t: it doesn’t effect your app at all. Just chill out. Admittedly I’m in a tiny village in the South of Spain , so I never thought there was much chance of an alumni living down the road, but even so, I’ve never given it a moment’s thought.

Thanks for the thread, but I read it already. Especially this point:

…which is why I asked the question, since my friend who submitted his application half a week after mine already had his interview. If for some odd reason they processed to the ASC directors in reverse order, then there’s the question of my friend who sent his application in before mine that also had his interview already.
