The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

Jim chanos was to short HPQ because it is a value trap. Assuming he is right about finding value traps, I suspect Yahoo is another value trap. Maybe it would be a good short.

Lol, nothing, as the broker who met me only handled smaller accounts…meeting with his boss’s boss in August…should be interesting. :)

Felt like i was in re movie Boiler Room. ;)

I wouldn’t short anything until it starts to go down. I think its a value trap but it can remain this way for a long time

DocT, combination of shorts covering and people shooting from the hip? But there are winner stocks out there that was trading at a discount earlier this week so it was difficult to pass them up.

10 year tips sell for negative 0.63 yield, today.

Wth?

I guess one reason is that negative yield on the tips may end up a better yield than the yield on the regular 10 year.

Several countries have negative interest rates.

<a href=“Negative Interest Rates And The Currency War | Seeking Alpha”>Negative Interest Rates And The Currency War | Seeking Alpha;

I hope the following never happens.

http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/01/treasury-ponders-negative-interest-rates/</a></p>

Interesting article:[Want This Job? ‘Let Me Sleep With Your Girlfriend’ - Yahoo! Finance](http://finance.yahoo.com/news/want-job-let-sleep-girlfriend-200045795.html)

I understand why the “wealthy” French are looking at leaving.

They have a wealth tax.

“Lawmakers later voted to back an emergency rise in the ISF wealth tax applying to taxpayers with a net worth of more than 1.3 million euros ($1.6 million) and which is expected to bring in an extra 2.3 billion euros in revenues this year.”

[French lawmakers abolish tax breaks, boost taxes on rich - Yahoo! News Canada](http://ca.news.yahoo.com/french-lawmakers-abolish-tax-breaks-boost-taxes-rich-204249429.html)

Apparently the proposed rate for this year is 0.5%. It includes:

Land & buildings (Principal & secondary residences, rental property, …)

Financial investments (quoted & unquoted stocks & shares, bank accounts, …)

Jewellery and precious stones

Furniture

Cars, Motorcycles, Boats, Aeroplanes, …

I guess it’s an encouragement to spend your assets.

"“If I told you that the only way you were going to get this job is if you let me sleep with your girlfriend, would you accept?”

“A good answer one person posted on Wall Street Oasis was: I’ve been with my girlfriend a long time and plan to marry her. If you so much as kiss her neck, I’d [bleeping] knock you out. That being said, I have a beautiful sister I’d be happy to hook you up with …
And that, my friend, is a lesson in how deals get done on Wall Street!”

:)

I think some interest rates in France went negative recently. If my memory is correct, that is just great. Negative interest rates and a wealth tax. And people complain about the Clinton tax rates.:)

I see that MSFT is up a little after hours. Makes sense that the option premium was so low.

I started to do a ratio call spread in Aapl, but after getting a small fill, I thought to myself, what can I really make on this spread compared to what I can lose? Not much. So, I guess I will let Aapl go this time. If I can put on a butterfly spread for nothing, I might do it. Maybe. Depends how much work it is going to take to put it on.

Work is incredibly boring right now. I fall a sleep for a few minutes. Wake up. Miss nothing. I hope nobody I know is reading this. ;)

Can’t trust anybody.

^^^And is anyone surprised bynthat article^^^*. ;)

A famous CEO who is now retired and has written a few books with his younger wife would do just that whenever he needed a penny or two to beat earnings…Just about every department “massaged” numbers, so if several didn’t make what they thought ,this CeO would call his CFO and ‘find’ the money ,usually in the finance arm of this conglomerate…not a rumor, just a fact

Yeah…

He is the same guy that bragged that one of his companies can generate the same revenues with 30 percent fewer workers…and in the same conversation complain that the country isn’t creating enough jobs. ;)

the market killed CMG today. Maybe it’s time to buy?

I guess CMG is not going to grow so large that every person in the US will eat every meal at CMG.

I bought my short JPM jul34 puts in for a teeny tiny profit.

I was hoping to see the puts expire worthless, and maybe they will, but I don’t want to fool around with those puts.

Spain’s stock market is down almost 6 percent today.
Italy’s stock market is down 4.4 percent.
I own enough bonds in financial companies. I don’t need to own JPM.

At Schwab, if you do 30 trades in a month or I don’t know, 100 trades in a quarter, or have 1 million in assets at Schwab, you get free Level2 quotes. Other wise it costs 30 bucks. (I don’t know how long you get Level2 quotes for 30 bucks.)

I guess if you have to pay for Level2 quotes, you don’t really need them.

Anyway, if you trade a lot or in size, I like Level 2 quotes. You can see the markets in the lit exchanges, like ARCA, NSDQ, BATS, etc.

0bviously, you can’t see the markets in the dark exchanges…because…they…are…dark. :)

Anyway, my guess is other brokerage firms have similar free offers for level2 quotes. Maybe, terms that are easier to meet.

I visited the new mall today.

It’s gorgeous.

Very well done.

Great mix of upscale shops.

Lots of people shopping there today.

I felt like I was at a beach resort.

It was the whitest place I’ve been to in years - it reminded me of visiting Bangor, Maine except there was a lot more wealth on display at the local mall. I think that Simon Property Group has a winner here.

Nice.

Did you buy anything?

I bought a shirt that I wanted at The Nike Store - it was one-third less than what Dicks was asking. I picked up a pair of shorts at The New Balance Factory Outlet for a good though not great price. Prices at the Boston Outlet Store are moderately better. I had to wait in lines at both stores.

I am normally a very fast walker - I wasn’t able to walk anywhere my usual pace at this mall as there were too many people.

I have level 2 through interactive brokers (or at least I think I do), but I have yet to figure out how that access is supposed to help me trade.

I read an article recently that said the market is most likely to go down on Fridays because traders do not want to be long over the weekend so they liquidate. That makes sense to me especially for commodities like crude. Then I read another article by a guy saying that you should buy in the last hour of Friday and sell in the first hour of Monday. I guess this means Fridays are for bears and Mondays are for bulls.

Bc, what other stores are lcoated there…it sounds very similar to the newly built outlets near where we reside…

Locked in a contractor today for home remodel project, couldn’t squeeze any $$$ off estimate, which surprised me, as i never pay liston anything…oh well

Wow, post 2277.

Too many people!!

I wonder what that place will be like during Christmas time.
