The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

I think the WSJ story is from this afternoon, Fox story is more current

Futures up strong in pre-market…

My visual is Lucy with a football …

In its own perverse way, the market will go down if there is a good jobs number. The “addict” can’t live without its drug: stimulus.

Dstark thanks for the link; I missed it: will page back. Thought maybe I had not actually posted the question. Must have done right before an away week. No memory any more. My friends claim same - age and stage blah blah. Thanks again.

BC, i like the visual. :)

This is one corrupt industry…

I guess the Knight issue stopped the stock market from rallying. ;)

Jobs much higher than expected, unemployment rate ticks up to 8.3%, wages and hours mostly unchanged. July is a tricky month because of Auto Plant stuff so take it with a grain of salt.

Though June was revised lower…the game continues…i am concerned, not about my family’s prospects, but for the millions of people getting squeezed…The rise in stock market value doesn’t help those folks, because many don’t have a penny in the stock market, and even those whomdo, have little invested…

I do think that it helps sentiment - at least for those that have stocks. We certainly saw the consumer effect in the housing bubble.

My daughter was invited to take a trip to a relative’s house in SanFran so I’m looking at getting her a Google Nexus 7 to take with her (I was going to give her my iPod Touch but it might be too small and I do actually use it a lot for training) as we’re trying to minimize what she will be carrying. Should could take the iPad too but the Nexus 7 is smaller, and much lighter though doesn’t have as much functionality. She could load it up with E-Books. I’m looking at getting her some clothes for the trip too. My guess is that she’s going to be somewhat of a nanny. I think far less of expenses like these when my account values are headed north. Accounts are +12% YTD.

There was some subtle good news out of Europe last night perceived from Draghi’s comments and lower short-term bond rates in Spain last night.

I haven’t stopped spending either, not during the downturn, real estate crash, etc…do what we want, buy what we want ,when we want…BUT, we have been fortunate, more then most…i can’t see how consumer spending can continue, when many families are just scraping by

Facebook is now trading at a little over 21 dollars, compared to its price in the high 30s during its IPO. To me it wouldn’t be so overvalued if not for the fact that Facebook’s main primary asset is its userbase, not a hard asset that it owns. Unlike R&D labs or machinery or Apple designers, a userbase can flee to some other upstart service in the future, just like what Myspace suffered.

Do you click on ads when you use FB?

Maybe time to buy a little protection

I may be one of the few who is not on Facebook… See no point in reconnecting with people I haven’t seen or spoken to in decades

Well…I did sell some aug 19 puts in FB yesterday. They expire today.

I couldn’t help myself.

I have a FB account, but I don’t use it. The same reasons that PhillyFed doesn’t use FB.

I had sold FB 20 puts and rolled them out yesterday to 8/18 19 puts for .66-.32 = .34.

FB puts are collapsing.

I don’t know what happened in the last hour but the stock took off.
