I’m struggling with what to do tomorrow in the market. We’re leaving tomorrow night on a trip where I will not have much internet access until the first of the year. I’m a bit nervous with the aho* in congress and what might happen with the market.

I think that Mr. Market continues to believe that there is still some change of a deal before January 1, 2013. If true, the market will skyrocket if a real deal is entered. I am planing on keeping my bet very low in cost by buying a 1450 call on the emini s and p. If I am wrong I will only lose a few hundred dollars. If they reach a deal, the cash will be solid.

I hope I am wrong, but at this point I believe there will be no deal in 2012, but there will be a deal very early in 2013, so in theory there should be no lasting damage done to the economy. It sounds cynical, or maybe it is just realistic, but there seem to be too many that will not vote for any tax increase of any kind. Wait until 2013 and you get to vote for a tax cut, not a tax hike. So transparently silly and trite to you and me, but sadly the way some see it.

Anyone playing Herbalife? I am hoping I can buy the bottom price of the stock for a quick trade but it looks like it will keep going down forever.

Who was the young Harvard guy on Squawk this AM (Thurs.) and what is his investment company? Just heard the last bit and they didn’t repeat his name nor his Company’s at the end of the report. Tkx.

2012 is one of the few years I hit my 401K target.

Due to the lack of time and restrictions from the 401K account, I have mostly switching between cash/bond and S&P 500 index fund. Missed the last 12xx to 14xx run up. Did catch couple 13xx to 14xx.

dstark, were those Dec 28 puts, or Dec 31 puts? I was assigned on Dec 28 puts, but the strike was 141. I am also short Dec 31 140 puts, so we shall see on those.

CNBC did an amusing snippet of Lake Superior State University’s 38th annual list of banished words. Among them are fiscal cliff, job creators/creation and kick the can down the road. Someone also mentioned cautiously optimistic.
