The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

Lord of the Rings?

Economy may be turning way up. I’ll know on Monday.

Your daughter?

I know many posters read marketwatch.com so I probably dont have to post this but Warren’s Buffett’s record the last 15 years isnt much…

I like this quote…

“You don’t need to be a rocket scientist. Investing is not a game where the guy with the 160 IQ beats the guy with 130 IQ.”

And is there a more complicated product for consumers?

So you want to be a lawyer?

[recent law grad](http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/lgl/3901665673.html)

Looking for a recent law grad who wants to gain litigation experience in a law office north of Boston. Work will include research, pleadings, correspondence, discovery and pre-trial preparation in the field of medical malpractice, personal injury and business litigation.

Compensation: $15.00 hour
This is a part-time job.

I wonder how many lawyers are going to apply.

Looking through random job postings can be a lot of fun if you don’t actually need one.

I’m continually amazed at how many positions there are out there in just the Boston area - from the lowest positions to the highest.

I have to admit I havent looked at job postings in awhile.

I dont understand what many jobs are these days.

I found a short-term sub-contract job and sent it to my daughter. They called her five minutes after she applied, asked a few questions and said that they would let her know Monday with a start date of later in the week. The customer is a government organization and the work is at the organization’s site. The rate is 63% higher than what I would expect in a private-sector job. The job ends just before she would go back to school.

I am quite amazed at how little leverage some employers think that job-seekers have. I saw several low-pay jobs that expect the employee to have a car in a place where a car is expensive.

BCEagle91, that is great.

I am happy for your daughter and you. Getting a job is exciting.

Are the employers correct?

Is this really necessary?

I don’t know if they are correct or not. My wife suggested that illegal immigrants would take these kinds of jobs.

Daughter doesn’t have the job yet - she finds out on Monday. We’ll have to get her work clothes - the clothes that she wore for her internship probably aren’t good enough for this position.

You have to keep the clothing stores in business.

Good luck Monday.

I have noticed that home sellers are starting to over price their homes around here. That strategy isnt working. The homes are sitting. This will add to inventory and the frenzy will stop. The pop in mortgate rates isnt helping either.

I find the analysis very weak here, but I like the subject matter…

[Seeking Alpha](<a href=“Seeking Alpha | Stock Market Analysis & Tools for Investors”>Seeking Alpha | Stock Market Analysis & Tools for Investors)

I found this long article on yield stocks, etfs and funds interesting. This article was posted on June 4 as things were heading south. The comments (also very long) are interesting as a lot of posters were buying these high-yield instruments on the way down as I was. A few of the commenters were buying PSEC on the way down.

I think that they’re doing well in our area. I see the strip and real mall parking lots quite busy these days though I don’t know if they are lookers or buyers. I’m not the best expert in what women wear to the office these days so I asked someone in my office (which is far more casual than normal) for some ideas and got them. I may need to find a CC thread on this.

I was browsing admin assistant positions this morning and found a receptionist/secretary temporary job (no benefits) that pays from under $9 to a little over $11 per hour. It’s located in a wealthy suburb. So someone would need benefits from a parent or spouse, cheap housing and a vehicle. Not sure whether or not it was a contract job but if it was, they’d need to pay both sides of SS too along with Medicare.

I found several more opportunities in Boston too which I will send to my daughter. I think that you have to be relentless in looking to land a job these days.

Daughter has started studying for her A+ certification and she’s really happy with the books that I got her. I asked her why she liked them so much and she said that they get right to the point - they don’t provide background, history, interesting tidbits that you typically get in college textbooks. I told her that the background and history are good to know - if you’re working with a customer or client, you can provide them with history, background and stories while you’re working on their problem. Part of the business of fixing things or setting things up can be to provide a little entertainment while you are working.

I don’t think that she thought of that aspect of the working world.

There’s one thing that I would absolutely love to see in job sites: a section for entry level jobs. Or a website dedicated to entry-level jobs. Just for fun, I went to entryjobs.com. My antivirus flagged it as a malicious site.

We posted the same article independently at the same time?

Lol… I guess we have similar interests.

9 to 11 bucks an hour?

We read that people are lazy and dont want to work. Relying on that kind of pay to get by? You better be starting out, love your job, or like you say… Have other means of financial support to get by.

My wife snd daughters handle the clothes issues. I have no interest in clothes. I think my daughter buys some clothes at banana republic.

BCE, you can try a local Salvation Army or Goodwill. My girlfriend’s found the women’s clothing there to be way nicer than what I find over in the men’s section (it’s a winner of a day if I can find a pair of Dockers in my size). She dresses with a button-up blouse type of thing every day with a nice pair of dark pants. Helping her with laundry and seeing Eddie Bauer, Talbots, and things considerably nicer than the clearance rack Kohls I wear makes me jealous. :(

I don’t think that our local Goodwill store carries that kind of stuff. I’ve been to the thrift stores in my area before - our area isn’t dirt poor but it’s not really wealthy either. My wife did come home with some stuff from Singapore but it might be a little too dressy for work.

Thrift shops around here like Savers or SA are typically priced at 5-10% or less of what they originally sold for, and most of the clothes have very light wear. The selection, especially for women’s clothes, seems to be pretty large. DD shops there all the time.

It’s a great way to pick up a nice wardrobe for cheap.
