The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

I’m running my streaming realtime charts on a 2004 laptop.

I have laptops from 2000, 2001, 2002 that still work just fine. A lot of the older stuff used higher-quality parts back then. I think that 2005 is when HP consumer quality stuff went sharply downhill. Dell has been inconsistent since then - some of their stuff is good and some prone to problems. My wife’s machine has been fine. I clean it out from time to time.

I already did this on the which has the same CPU generation as the machine from 2007. It makes a huge difference.

Windows 8 is a lot faster than XP and 8.1 is supposed to be moderately better than 8.

I kept my last car for 12 years and 250K miles.

UNH +5%!

Microsoft and Google had huge misses. The $compq is getting hammered AH. CMG killed earnings. They’re over $400/share now. AAPL, AMZN down on sympathy. Looks like a bloodbath in techland.

I wonder if NDLS will piggyback on that CMG move.

I shorted some NDLS the other day, but it didn’t move much so I got out. It’s over valued but it could still go up.

Anyone thinking of buying GOOD or ISRG?

Msft going up has been beyond my comprehension for a long time.

GE is up almost 5% because their earning beat the expectations marginally? It sounds like an overreaction to me. Would they sustain it?

Bookmarking…

BunsenBurner, thanks for SGEN. I am up a few hundred bucks in it. I should be up more but that is my own fault. SGEN is up more around 10 percent or more since you brought it up.

I see that hlf is up to 59+. I would not be feeling too good if I was Ackman… Well I guess he is still wealthy.

Intc is below 23. I am short 100 shares even though I said I was going to hold the stock long term. I dont know. I just dont like the math the company has to overcome as the pc market shrinks. I see that amd took it on the chin last week too.

Aapl’s earnings come out tomorrow. I guess aapl has fallen from its pedestal. There seems to be less chatter. I have no idea where aapl closed.

I see that mub is taking a small hit while tlt is up. Maybe it is related to the Detroit issues and the muni market is far from liquid.

I have traded once in 6 days. I have no idea what the market is doing but I am going to take a look. Oh… The market is closed. :)

On housing… I just talked to a friend who works for an investment company and he pretty much said this…

[Investors moving out of housing–here’s why - Yahoo! Finance](http://finance.yahoo.com/news/investors-moving-housing-heres-why-164139184.html)

And… This is interesting…

<a href=“Investors Struggle With Cash Conundrum - WSJ”>Investors Struggle With Cash Conundrum - WSJ;

I stopped looking for more undervalued condos to buy last year when the prices went up so much. That trade is gone.

I still like housing. NSM looks interesting. PMT has a pretty good yield. NVR missed on earnings but its y/y revenue was up 30 percent.

NFLX beat on earnings but protected lower new subscribers. I think it is a short, but I am not sure when.

Yeah…missed the condo opportunity although around here there wasnt much I wanted.

There is one townhouse going on sale that I would want except there is going to be a bidding war. I dont want to get involved in that. Should help give me an idea what mine is worth since it is in the same complex. :)

I had a feeling you were going to mention nflx. :)

I do invest in munis…the rates have been going up…

Looks like 5 percent for 15 years is out there for A rated bonds. That is not a bad return; although, if rates normalize those rates could go to 6 percent.

Municipalities relied on the markets to fund these pensions and cut their contributions to these pensions. Also, in SF future pensioners did not contribute to their pensions between 2004-2007. This makes things interesting for pensioners and bondholders because…

The returns did not happen so…

I own a small amount of GOs issued by SF, San Jose, and Oakland.

SF and San Jose are booming. At least SF is…
SF should not have budget issues…
We dont need to get into politics…SF fix your issues…

I still remember Meredith Whitney’s call. Boy is she a dodo bird.

Yeah… Not a big fan of hers…

What? No Apple talk?

^So true. Not much talk on CNBC, either.

I guess Macs are not immune to the pressures on PCs either:

FB up 18 percent after hours on good earnings. Gotta admit that one caught me by surprise.

The lemmings strike again.

I see three brokerage houses have upgraded FB today.

Just in time! Seriously, why would anyone pay attention to people like this?
