The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

I guess nobody here needs to feel sorry for Tepper anymore.

Mark Arbeter says it looks like the S&P 500 is trying to form the right shoulder of a head and shoulder pattern.

IBD changed to Market Under Pressure on August 6.

Anyone ever invested in shipping containers? I am trying to figure out if it is a scam or a solid investment.

I’m beginning to look at these as part of a buy and hold strategy:

Expenses are several times higher than their cap weighted cousins, but the concept intrigues me.

Where is BCEagle and his thoughts about the market?

BCEagle last posted 7/19. Maybe he is on vacation spending all the big cash he got this year.

^^I hope so! You always hope people are gone because good things are happening. He had really good advice. I need it, I have been making some BAD decisions lately.

so now AAPL is “undervalued”… great.

It’s now Icahn’s “Apple is undervalued” vs Ellison’s “Apple is doomed”.

AAPL is trading a just over 12 x earnings, which is about the same level as Exxon. Thats a pretty low multiple in this market.

I just have to believe that Apple has better growth prospects. On the other hand, it probably doesn’t have the same level of insulation from competition that Exxon enjoys. If I were worried about safety, I’d buy Exxon. But if I wanted to seek higher returns, I think I’d buy Apple.

So the market is crashing, and this thread is on the fourth page on cc?

What I don’t understand is exactly why the market is crashing so much. Interest rates going up (yes, we knew that already), Fed winding down their bond buying (no surprise), havoc in the Middle East (still). A couple of bad earnings reports. Nothing particularly new, so why the big panic now?

Top line (revenue) growth is tepid or negative at bellwether companies (Walmart). Fears that the market may have gotten ahead of itself a bit. I don’t understand the spike in the 10-year yield coupled with the downdraft in stocks, though. Rates should move the other direction if we’re headed back into recession.

“So the market is crashing, and this thread is on the fourth page on cc?”

LOL - the s&p is down a total of 2.8% from the peak

IBD says Market in Correction.

One of my indicators just showed a buy signal in S&P 500.

Crazy.

“LOL - the s&p is down a total of 2.8% from the peak”

hey, the market is crashing for me because one of my buy orders went through this morning before I could stop it. Last week, things were looking up.

Hey, you bought lower than if you bought last week.

Well, that is a minor consolation, I suppose. I could have done even worse!

I swear, I think I could make you guys a lot of money. I could tell you when I sell something, and then you know you’d better buy it right away, because it’s going right up. Then I could tell you when I buy, and you sell it ASAP.

^ That sounds just like our stock club, busdriver. We seem to buy high and sell low :(

Sure. Go ahead and buy csco THE hottest stock yesterday. I am tired of holding it, every time following a good earning report they will announce some bad news.
