Hmmm…lots of technical indicators…:)

The bands do not stay constricted forever just like volatility doesn’t stay low forever. The stocks usually breakout either to the upside or downside. The other indicators tend to lead and show the short term direction out. The problem is they do not tell you the amount of movement, so unless you’re trading zillions of dollars, the amount of gain could be negligible. Perhaps somebody here has found a way to determine this, slopes, obv etc?

“The Economic Cycle Research Institute last week repeated its forecast that the U.S. is headed for a new recession, a prediction that the consultancy has been emphasizing since last September.”

That is all I need to read…

Recession? Maybe…a slowdown or stagnant economy…no doubt…Stock market declines,yes

Well…I sold some puts today during the sell off…kind of what JPMorgan did earlier. Except…I know my risk. :)

I hope to sell more puts during each sell off…and then hope we don’t have a severe sell off, so I don’t end up like JPM…having to lie about hedging.

So before anything bad happens…just for the record…
I am not hedging. :)

If stocks continue to decline…shares may be put to me…I may have to buy stocks…if I don’t cover.

Expecting more selloffs?

Don’t know. I leave that to you guys.

“If stocks continue to decline…shares may be put to me…I may have to buy stocks…if I don’t cover.”

At least, you’ll be buying the shares cheaper. I sold aapl 545 5/19 puts today. I’ll buy aapl for 545 unless it blows right through that price at which time, I’ll roll it out until next week.

I am not surprised by the price rise.

But the closure of the books on Tuesday…

It is going to be hard to get shares…

“At the mid-point of $36, Facebook would raise $12.1 billion by selling 337.4 million shares. The company founded in a Harvard dorm room by Mark Zuckerberg, who turned 28 on Monday, had originally aimed for $28 to $35 a share.
Wall Street had expected the company to increase the price range, with investors keen to get in on Silicon Valley’s largest ever IPO that eclipses Google Inc’s 2004 debut. Its roadshow began last week and has drawn crowds.
The company plans to close the books on its IPO on Tuesday, two days ahead of schedule and in a signal that the landmark initial share sale is drumming up strong demand, a second source familiar with the deal told Reuters earlier.
The social network is scheduled on Thursday to price its shares, then begin trading on Friday.
The IPO is already “well oversubscribed,” which is why the company is closing its books earlier than anticipated, the source said.”

I bit a bullet in ANR…

I was short a lot of puts there and I covered those for a small loss. Sometimes a small loss is a big win. :)

I am long 1,000 shares…I can live with that.

Market participants hate coal stocks.

I’m looking for a good way to hedge utx stock that I inherited but do not have access to so I can’t sell it. Any ideas? put spreads? calendar spreads?

So…you are going to be short utx in one account and you are going to be long it in another?

Would you sell it at the current price if you could?

When would you want to sell UTX?

I really don’t want to sell it. I have an emotional tie to it (not a good thing). I would have to be short in another acct. The account it is in isn’t a regular trading account. I could obviously buy puts (expensive), put spread (less expensive) or something else but I don’t seem to be able to find a good combination that works well.
