If you are basing your opinions on studentsreview, then you are not only misinformed but also letting others think for you. Anyone can post anything there. It doesn’t have to be factual.

Is there something wrong with being academically focused? Is there something wrong with dressing a certain way? Why can’t people dress preppy or punk if they want to? Is there something wrong with nerds? Drama queens? Jocks? If you are that hung up about how people dress, I don’t know that any college will suit you. Scared of punks? Why? Because they are different? Would you be frightened of someone wearing a turban? In a wheel chair?

I can tell you that I am offended by some of the remarks here, particularly since they are based on anonymous reviews. We are not rich, and my son is not arrogant. He hasn’t found the student body to be that way, either. Carleton students involved themselves in a lot of community service and the pre-frosh trip is heavy on community service. There are groups that sell soup bowls for the food kitchen, and raise money for Darfur. There is a whole column called “Caught in the Act” which features Carls and their service projects. Many go into the Peace Corps after graduation.

My son gave up balmy 70 degree winters in south Texas without even looking back once, and hasn’t found the Minnesota winters horrible.

If you are that gullible that you believe everything you read on an anonymous student review web page, then I don’t think Carleton is the place for you.
