The Karen Read Murder Trial

I agree that a conspiracy of a big fight in the basement of a house is unrealistic. MAYBE on person got in a fight with him outside and then he was stunned and wandered to the lawn, slipped and hit his head.

I do think the Alberts and Jenn McCabe were on the phone planning what needed to be done JUST IN CASE one of their own was involved. I think the cops did their work to protect other cops, like not investigating in the house, of having the video ‘skip’ 20 minutes in the police garage, of disposing of cell phones. At that time, they didn’t know that Karen Read would have resources to fight.

Proctor’s other cases are now suspect, including the one where a husband is accused of murdering his wife and dismembering her .

But of course Proctor is appealing his firing. This was the first time he’d ever chatted with friends about a suspect or said vile things, he was tired, it was a blizzard…Sure.

There were some blogger recaps over the weekend and even more today, including the defense attorneys making appearances. Not much new. Those who were pro prosecution are mostly going on and on about how she used publicity to sway the jury and nothing like this has ever happened before. Really? OJ doesn’t ring a bell?

Those who are Pro-Karen and aren’t lawyers are really rabid on how innocent she is, she was framed, she did nothing wrong. Those in her corner who are attorneys are mostly saying it wasn’t proved beyond a reasonable doubt, that the experts were all on the side of ‘there was no car crash’ (and many are fine with the DWI finding cuz she admitted it).

Court TV always tries to steer down the center and had Julie going on and on about the crowds and chanting. Vinnie Politan was always a pro Karen/no evidence guy.

Prosecutor today said that they have no reason to think anyone other than Karen Read ‘did this’ so will not be looking into it further. Of course, they aren’t admitting he might have just slipped and no one ‘did it.’ He had no trouble referring to the FBI investigation NOW that the trial is over.

Did not follow closely, but the evidence seemed to suggest that the car did not hit him. In that case, seems like she was not responsible for his death. As others have said, seems like it may have been simply a tragic accident where she dropped him off and then he fell.

Yes. I feel for his family and agree with their dismay that the trial turned into a circus. She may be innocent, but Karen Read is definitely not a likable person IMO.

I agree the Karen is a ‘strong’ personality, but she definitely was the outsider of the group, not being in law enforcement and not growing up in Canton. She was overcharged (2nd degree murder? same as if she’s shot him with a gun?) and this is what happens if someone is overcharged. I don’t think the Alberts and McCabes conspired to kill O’Keefe and blame Karen but I do think they conferred to get their stories straight and back up all the cops with a story.

What I can’t figure out is how Jen McCabe saw Karen and John’s car pull up at 12:20 or so (Jen was inside the house), never saw John enter the house, didn’t see Karen drive away, and at some point after that Jen left the home and never saw anything once outside - not the car, not John lying on the lawn, not other cars, no one else coming or going, not the dog. Jen was at the ‘gathering’ at the Albert’s house, there were other people there, some kids picking up other kids, and at some point John and Karen came to the house (out front), Karen says John went in, some kids say they saw Karen in the car but not John, kids left, and then no one inside the house ever saw anything - no Karen car leaving , no John coming into the house, no John on the front lawn, no dog running in the street.

It’s a pickle.

Someone asked above if any of the post trial talking heads have offered any theories on what really happened.

My favorite vlogger is The Lawyer You Know (youtube and one other platform). He’s a practicing lawyer in Florida and his father is a lawyer with a lot of federal experience.

He’s reviewed a lot of the juror interviews and they are very interesting as the jurors picked up a lot of the good testimony and a lot of the ‘we don’t know what happened’ statements by the prosecution and their witnesses, which means reasonable doubt.

One of his best interviews was Michael Easter, who was supposed to be a witness but the judge didn’t allow him. He’s a former FBI agent and he was supposed to testify about the investigation in general, what they did right (very little) and what a good investigation TFhave included. At the end of his interview he was asked what could have happened. He said he would have looked into Brian Higgins a lot more. Here’s a federal agent (I think ATF) who left the party, drunk, went to the Canton police department to ‘work on paperwork’ at 1 am, was in the carport when Karen Read’s car arrived, had the sexy emails, and then went to an army base and threw away his cell phone and the sim card in a different dumpster just a day before getting served a preservation order. Shady guy.

But really interesting juror interviews about how they viewed evidence, the lawyers, and the witnesses.
