The Magical ( and somewhat Official) Yale RD Countdown Thread

^mmmm. I don’t suppose so. we WERE taught in AP Psych that the first thing a man looks for in a woman is age and attractiveness, and the first thing a woman looks for in a man is money/earning potential.

…I can’t refute either of the claims…

@ cafesimone

at Yale!?

[oh wait, that -could be- us]

roflz

I guess one of the perks of going to Yale is that I’ll look even more attractive than usual. yay.

^ by comparison?

…love it, lol

I understand your sentiment, cafesimone.

Is that really true? That probably only comes up when women want to get married and seriously date.

To follow up on the chopin discussion when we read the awakening I said that Edna was a bad mother and should have been happy because her husband was financially supporting her. Needless to say others did not share that opinion.
Remember the scence when the husband comes home and tells her to check on one of her sons because he had a fever and then she goes to cry. I read that as she being a bad mother because it was her JOB to watch after the children, it was not like she worked so she should have been doing her job.

Dbate, that’s what all of the guys were saying in my class this morning. In fact, you expressed my sentiments exactly. My teacher and the girls, however, did see it differently. She said that were were speaking only as males and not as thoughtful students. Of course, she’s wrong. That same teacher and I had an argument one time because I said that almost all of history’s successful leaders had p e n i s e s, and she refused to accept that. It’s a simple fact. Anyway, I simply dislike when teachers try to push an agenda on their students; it really turns me off.

CC is truly a place of intellectual mast3rbation. (catharsis, if you’re uncomfortable with the M word)

i’ve been on this site too long tonight…g’night all

oh btw… 14:17:12:45 :frowning:  :frowning:  :frowning:  :frowning:  :frowning:  :frowning:  :frowning:  :frowning:  :frowning:  :frowning: :)

Well that is quite true especially from a Western perspective, but you also have to acknowledge the fact that women were steered away from leadership positions for a long time in Western history.
But before the rise of the Greek and Roman worlds there were female leaders in Israel and Egypt and also China had a Empress at one point later.

I don’t really see how you can read Chopin in a non-feminist light, though.

But whatever.

I’ve been a tad disappointed in what I’ve read in English this year.

For me I have been a tad disappointed in what I have read on sparknotes this year. Unfortuantely I don’t think I have read a single entire book for english this year, with 5 other APs and senioritis I have just been too busy.

does the decisions get emailed out?

or does a link to a page get emailed out and you have to check on site?

^you gotta check the site.

5 pages in like 12 hours. impressive.

for once I hail my education system for not forcing us to read lit. books. :)

I’m nervous O-0

Holy ****!! So many pages O:! I hate time difference!

14 days, 12 hours, 24 minutes

^ hahaha. i’m with you in hating time diff.

we should start a facebook group with the same name as this thread. that would be fun.
we’ll all have heads and faces then :D

One night of sleep and all you see are discussions on APlit apparently.

@prateek You don’t have to read any lit books?

nah…not in senior classes
we just have a coursebook which has short stories or maybe a 10 page excerpt from classics here and there
and of course poems

so if you don’t like reading…you pretty much just end up reading like 5 books and pathetic vocab not to forget
