The Magical ( and somewhat Official) Yale RD Countdown Thread

Snow…?

Try Tornados here.

Try FOG thick enough you can’t see the traffic lights. >_>

(admittedly, it is much less dramatic than a tornado, but HEY I value seeing traffic lights when I drive. )

Okay, so. I just got rejected by Johns Hopkins and Wellesley.

My whole body’s revolting against Tuesday decisions.

I’m going to pretend that it’s because they secretly hate all internationals and are actively trying to reduce the diversity in their schools.

(Also, many thanks to Butternut/limetime/Me=pomegranate!! for the support :\ <3)

I got waitlisted at johns Hopkins meh  I hope that doesn’t say anything about my chances at Yale…

I’m so sorry to hear that, IndiaRubber and Icestorm! :(

you guys are def. great applicants! Keep your hopes up!

Oh I’m so sorry! We just need to tell ourselves that each decision is independent of the others and getting rejected at one school doesn’t = rejection from an equal or better school.

I hope.

oh yeah, i never posted it here,

-waitlisted at JHU-

…it happens

Honestly, I do not even know my chances at Yale. It is so ridiculous.

^^i would say it’s the number of spots availible divided by the number of applicants

^ Clever boy.

hahaha
so funny
I mean, I do not know what my chances are because I applied to two schools

IndiaRubber: Those insert HORRIBLE name here's are missing out. You are an AMAZING person, and you’re into a freaking MEDICAL SCHOOL. Keep your chin up, we all love you on this board and think that these colleges have flipping clue what they’re doing.
Because you’re a ridiculously smart person.

pomegranate and Icestorm: I’m really sorry guys, you are also amazing and I’m genuinely shocked that you didn’t get in. What the freak is going on?!?!?!

Also, IndiaRubber, it may have just been the fact that you’re an international and applied for financial aid. In which case, the colleges are stupid. Because you’re too good for them!

However… I actually have some news of my own.
I got accepted to Williams :)

I got accepted to Williams too! It’s really helping me not be so focused on Tuesday…

But, I got waitlisted by University of Chicago and rejected by MIT. Just goes to show that no single admission/rejection says anything about any of the other schools.

I don’t know what the colleges that rejected Me=pomegranate!!, Icestorm, and IndiaRubber were thinking… well, actually, they obviously weren’t.

Congratulations to EVERYONE.

I’ve been on these boards for quite some time (ignore my join date).

I’m certain everyone of you guys is going to go to a kickass (pardon the French) school, no matter hell or high water.

Response to previous:
@ The prophet:

I think the vast majority of Muslim countries (and the vast majority of Muslims I know) don’t condemn those things, either though public opinion that gets heard, or through official condemnation.

For instance; Iran’s president tells me there are no gays in Iran.

Problem is, his government also has the well documented policies of executing gays for being gay.

In several Islamic countries, it’s illegal for me to BE in certain areas, simply because of who I am.

@ Galess (I think it was you): China’s military, along with China’s economy is the stuff of propaganda.

In the same way that over half of their so called ‘growth’ has really been government cash dumping ( I notice they aren’t ‘building cities’ any more…wonder what happened to that), the military of the People’s Republic is like a game of show and tell.

The money spent on the American military (US$515.4 billion for 2009) is almost as much as the rest of the world combined. Adjusted for purchasing power, we spend eight times as much as does China.

The threat that China poses to us isn’t military; they have no means to fight unconventionally, and about as much motive to do so as they do to fight/deter us in a conventional manner. What they DO pose a problem in is our trade weakness. We’re still import drunks.

I’m also in at Williams. Now I feel way more relaxed for Tuesday, because Williams was in a 3-way tie for my top school with Yale and Harvard, so even if I get rejected from both I’ll be totally fine.

^ Way to go dude.

@ No2EULA. Thanks, man. I hear you on the point you made about being in specific areas. I am literally not allowed to set foot in certain Islamic countries because of my religion, and I think this is unacceptable.

And I also agree with you about China. However, their economy is (was?) indeed extremely strong, and our penchant for imports will most definitely hurt us. China is a force to be reckoned with, still, and they control a large portion of the world’s power and economic “pie”.
And yes, they don’t pose a military threat to the U.S.

Don’t even get me started on Iran’s president…

to mnfm: CONGRATULATIONS! Maybe you, limetime, and I will see each other at Williams Previews (which I am MOST DEFINITELY going to!)

Congrats goldenratiophi! Are you going to Previews?
The only thing dampening my happiness about Williams are the rejections/waitlists of a lot of you on this thread… college admissions is just ridiculous. (Grr IndiaRubber!)

And yeah, Williams is tied with Yale for my top choice.
So at least I can go into Tuesday without as much anxiety, and thinking of purple cows while clicking the dreaded Eli link.

This is a pretty awesome way to ease the anxiety.
The site itself uses a (…simple…) sorting algorithm to rate the…well…You’ll see.

[Kittenwar! May The Cutest Kitten Win!](http://kittenwar.com/)

EULA, they may not spend as much militarily, but in terms of the potential size of their army they’re a potent force-they probably wouldn’t be the most well-equipped army, but in conventional, non-nuclear war they could pretty much just overwhelm any other country cuz Mao’s idea during the cold war was that at the end of a limited nuclear exchange between Russia, and the US, the few thousand survivors would be overwhelmed by millions of Chinese, if it ever came to that
wow, kind of a heavy topic for a magical thread lol
