I really cannot believe that they are treating this as though this is the only lab doing it. In fact, the late Sliman Bensmaia from U Chicago was doing far more advanced stuff regarding tactile sensation in prosthetics

When I was picking a major and thinking about future jobs in the 1980s, I was very interested in prosthetics. Back then, it was more of an art than a science, and it was about making things look “real” rather than how functional they were (technology just wasn’t there yet).

Super cool. Great advancement.
