The Official Chances Thread!

Apparently Tim Tebow is going back to school

LOL ^
Your guys’ stats are ridiculous…especially cancer zombie… thats definite grade inflation right there.

yeah cancerzombie sounds like my ridiculous eecs/mse joint major roommate. I got into mech E with a 2280, but hey, UCB loves scores (my extracurriculars definitely helped though)

would you guys believe me if i was known for sleeping the most in all my classes? it’s what i end up doing after spending far too much time playing videogames

Ok…plz help me out guys…: (

my single sitting on the sat is only 2090 (reading 630 math 700 writing 760)
but my gpa is pretty decent 3.87 unweighted (at school)…dont know the UC gpa.
Got 5s on APUSH, AP chinese, AP Psych, Ap comp politics,
Planning to take AP Mic/macro, ap calc ab, ap stat, ib mandarin b hl in may 2012.

My sat is probably lower than most of the int’l applicants out there…
but does berkeley really reject/accpet students based on a few more points on the SAT? hopefully not…cuz then I am applying to the wrong college…

Also, doesn’t berkeley need heaps of int’l applicants so that they dont go bankrupt? doesnt this apply to all universities in California?
I hope their financial situation also helps in my admission…but by how much?!

So… All in all, would u say that i can get rejected cuz of my 2090 SAT score or if i happen to get rejected, would it be because of some other issues? I am pretty sure my ECs and my essays aren’t as bad as others…(let’s just assume…ok)

Please help out a dejected hopeless senior here …T.T

Some math awards, mostly Canadian.
Space Design Competition held by University of Toronto

Compared to a lot of other people, It seems that I’m not competitive at all especially I’m an international student applying to College of Engineering…
Do I still have a slightest chance or it’s simply not possible?

OUT OF STATE!
Chance me please
3.96 GPA unweighted
I’m not sure what my UC GPA is but it should be pretty high since I will have taken 12 AP classes by the time I graduate.
SAT: 2110 (700is in each, I dont remember exactly)
SAT II: 790 US history, 770 math II, 730 Bio
APs: 5,5,5,5,5,4,4 Plus 5 more senior year
National merit semifinalist+National hispanic finalist
I’m an athlete and will be walking onto the team if I attend. I’m not sure how much support the school will give me though.
EC: I dont feel like listing but I feel that they are above average. I’ve done a good amount of lab work and have done a sport for 20+ hours a week for around 8 years.
I’m hispanic, although I know that doesnt matter.

Also, on the application I had been a teacher aide for one year and i didn’t have the option of putting the grade “p” for pass, so I just put A because I wasn’t sure what to do, and TA is obviously pretty useless anyways. Do you guys have any idea what i should’ve done, I think I may call the admin office, thanks!!
Thanks guys!

^ Clear the ‘p’ w/admin. You’re hispanic with stellar stats AND you’re OOS. I hope you applied Ivy league and other schools. I would say you’re into Cal, but you should shoot for HYPSMC or whatever the hell that is.

OUT OF STATE!

Applying for chem. engineering

Hey guys I’m a first time member, so pls bear with me

my life started to go down hill after I stopped rushing for a fraternity in college. the whole process was life draining and i quit because i felt overwhelmed. unfortunately when you quit while mid-rushing you get frowned upon by everyone on campus and you lose a lot of self-confidence in your self because you start to feel like a coward. I started to get depressed and would pummel myself endlessly to the point of suicide, not to mention my GPA dropped to a 2.1 because I literally lost focus of academics. Now i realize i really want to be a doctor but i don’t think i have the GPA or credentials and i don’t know how to break it to my parents. any suggestions on how to bounce back and what type of work i can find in a hospital for experience. Lastly, i have 2-3 years left in college what can I do to between now and then because i really want to pursue being a physician.

Suck it up, take a deep breath, and realize that it’s not too late.

Nail your MCATs.

Get the best grades you can.

Get some research/hospital experience.

And get a hobby that doesn’t involve drinking ****loads of alcohol while doing naked pushups or whatever it is they make you do nowadays to rush. Something that you love, that you do for you. It may not help your GPA, but it matters more than that.

Dude you’re so in.

<rant>
But seriously, what’s up with all you over-achieving little tykes and Berkeley? Berkeley is a safety school for you 4.0+ GPA types. You could **** on your application and send it in and still get accepted. (Not that I suggest it.)</rant>

Uh… why not aim higher? And if you’re really that hellbent on going to Berkeley, you really haven’t visited it enough. Unless you want to do EECS or some type of engineering. I mean, yeah, I got in, I went there, I’m going back there, but only because it’s there to go to. But my stats were no where near yours or all the other over-achieving ‘‘chance-me’’ fellows.

If you want to enjoy learning, if you want to form a good and easy relationship with your profs, and if you don’t want to be surrounded by a bunch of over-achieving asian kids, then don’t go to Berkeley.

I mean, I guess my point is, apply, get accepted, but REALLY REALLY think twice about taking that offer and don’t be afraid to look for something better, something smaller, more personal and intimate. It makes all the difference, lemme tell ya.

Peace/Love.

@easylife - Berkeley is cheaper for in-state folks that don’t qualify for private tuition FA. What other small schools are there that are affordable?
And there are kids who do get rejected with a 4.1+ W. If you are from a so called privileged background, you better show what difference you have made in your school/community.

Right, so in that position, when you can’t pay for a better school, Berkeley is worth settling for. But my main point was to look at all your options. I wouldn’t worry about financial aid and paying for it at this point, I would just worry about applying and get accepted. Once you’ve got some offers on the table, then you can think about not being able to afford it. And generally speaking, there’s a lot of help nowadays for that sort of thing.

If you’re smart enough to get into a nicer school, I’m sure you can be a little innovative and think of a way through it. It’s all about selling yourself. My personal experience at Berkeley tells me that for your first couple of years in pre-req/lower div. classes, you’ve got HUGE class sizes and difficult-to-approach profs. Moreover, the material isn’t that different than that covered at anywhere else.

Berkeley is a great option, but you guys who worked your tails off in HS deserve better, regardless of your financial situation.

@easylife:
I got deferred by MIT :(, and, as tryingforcollege pointed out, Berkeley is a very attractive option because it’s more affordable than other schools
