I really want to do biology but I’m worried I’ll get lost with all the other applicants who want to do bio. My other choices would be economics, anthropology, or sociology. I am better at economics but I am more interested in biology. Would like to do some sort of pre-med so that is why I choose bio.

The only thing that I see really standing me out is my SAT and E-C’s. I’m also looking at other UC schools (UCI, UCSD, UCLA and UC Davis). Berkeley has been my dream school since sophomore year but I also realize it’s a reach school for me.

It’s all I could think of. Thanks for the feedback

Since no one recently is helping, i guess I will.
Evkeev: for college of chemistry, id say u have a high match/low reach of a chance. Number wise youre good, and ur ecs are okay, but it is just hard in general to get into college of chemistry or engineering, and being out-of-state is still a disadvantage, despite what others say
Jojocircus28:assuming u are applying to college of l&s, u r a med to high match. Ur igcse scores are amazing, but ur sat is just average. Ur ecs are good.
Glasslocketz: it is weird that ur uw gpa is lower than ur uc gpa, which is usually not a good thing. I would say ur a match for college of l&s (pre-business), no matter if ur instate, outofstate, or international. But if u were to get into haas, we have to see two years from now…
Soham33: i agree that berkeley is a reach school for u as it takes gpa as the most important part of the application. Berkeley is race-blind, so dont worry about ur ethnicity. But ur ecs, sats, and difficulty of classes look solid. Does that gpa already inclde junior year? If not, hopefully it will go up by the end of junior year. U still have a chance, id say low to med reach

Thanks, I’ve heard the same about engineering.

Thanks, my GPA does include junior year. I’ll just keep my options open then.

Thank You!

Hello to all… I am going into my senior year and I plan to go into either a Physics or something else in the field of science. I do not know as of now…
My stats are listed as below…
GPA: UW 3.73 (the highest GPA you can get at my school is a 3.88) On a 4.0 scale my GPA would be a 3.84.
Not sure about my UC GPA… Also my school does not rank.

(Haven’t taken the SAT yet…)
As far as high school rigor goes:

Finalist of the Ableton Live Summer Music Challenge, which was a global contest for producers under the ages of 18. (2010-2011).
URM (African-American male, if that helps at all…)

PLEASE… List other schools with strong physics programs that would be matches, slight reaches. If not strong physics programs, good science schools overall! Thanks!

Background Info:

  • High School: Extremely rigorous, top 50 high schools in the nation
  • Indian (South Asian)
  • Income: 150k

Computer Science Major!

I messed up really bad in high school until junior year. W = weighted, UW, = unweighted
Sophmore year: 3.0 UW (3.167 W), 2.67 UW (2.83W)
Junior Year: 3.67 UW (4.167 W), 3.67 UW (4.167 W)
UC GPA: 3.62

SATs (Barely prepped):
1st attempt: 1850
2nd attempt: 1980

Going to attempt again in October, I’m positive I will get at least a 2100, and possibly a 2200, I’m studying 2 hours daily every weekday over the summer.

ACT:
1st attempt: 32
Going to attempt again in September, aiming for 34 or higher.

SATII: Math (760), Bio (770)

Others:

  • 150 hours community service
  • DECA (Business Club):
    - 3rd in Northern California for Math Marketing
    - 4th for presentation, 8th overall for Advertising Campaign in States competition
  • YouTube Channel on Technology (relates to my major, computer science)
    - 2,800 subscribers
    - My technology guides and reviews have been watched 1.1 MILLION times
  • Started an organization this summer to raise money for charity through online gaming. Raised about $700 so far.
  • Intro to Computer Science course over the summer, got an A
  • Intro to Programming in C course over the summer, got an A

What are my chances of getting in? I’m extremely passionate about technology and would love if I could further develop my knowledge by majoring in Comp Sci at great college.

Yeah, people who are posting their statistics: please be willing to rate someone else before asking to be chanced.

britches: You’re fine. I would try to up the SAT score a few more points just to be safe, but your ECs and GPA should get you in alone.
Razzar: you should be fine. On the issue of scholarships, you need to give more information about your income and class ranking. There are merit based scholarships for Berkeley, but you need to be highly qualified. Since a lot of students have financial issues, I don’t think you’ll be getting much without some serious financial issues.
ahmadiance666: Your scores are a bit low. I would say you still qualify, but your chances are low. If you can raise your SAT to 2200+ and up your GPA to 4.3, your chances will be much higher. I would not submit your SAT2 scores if I were you, math1 maybe, but your chemistry score does not help your chances of getting into an engineering major.
member25: you’re fine.

Female/Hispanic/1st Generation
Out-of-State
Rising Junior

Current GPA: 3.68/4 (school adds 10 points to AP courses)
Extremely rigorous HS - doesn’t report class rank. We’ve 180 students in my grade and I sit between the 1-2 quintiles (30-50 rank)

I have not taken the SAT or ACT yet. I will in the beginning of my junior year
SAT II: Bio (M) and WH. I got mid 600’s, so I will retake them.

I’m keeping it vague, but I have top leadership positions in all of these…
-School Newspaper
-Model United Nations
-Cappies
-Volunteering at the library
Not doing it anymore but piano was a big part of my life until 10th grade when I completed the testing sequence.

Any other significant accomplishments in a specific field
Lots of MUN delegate awards
Handful of schoolwide academic awards
PSAT score qualifies for something National Merit

…first time doing a chance me and I feel so inadequate .-.

Jubilee 27: One important fact is that many colleges look at your circumstances in addition to GPA and Scores. I can tell you that I managed to get in (albeit as a spring admit) with less impressive stats and barely any ECs. What matters is whether or not you are doing your absolute best with the resources and circumstances at your disposal. But from an objective stance, I would say your chances are high compared to the average stats of Berkeley freshmen.

chances para mi?

I am a non-traditional student with 150+ units hoping to transfer to UCI, UCLA, UCSD, OR UCB
as a mechanical engineering major. The first 75 units, I earned mediocre or negative grades.
The last 75 units (hard science, math, engr, and cs classes), I have earned a 3.95 GPA. My
cumulative GPA is a 3.4. I have finished or am enrolled in all possible pre-reqs for mechanical engineering at my CC (18 classes). I have completed 50 units in one year alone (20 fall, 21 spring, 9 summer), and am taking 20 units again for fall '13. If I continue this way, that would make it 95 units of 3.9+ GPA. I am TAGing for UCI, but what would you say my chances are with the rest??? Will my past forever haunt me?

Also, I have an opportunity to TA for my Molecular Biology professor. Should I do that in lieu of one of my classes?

Uc gpa: 3.94

I know there is no way I am going to Harvard but chance me!!!

Prospective Fall 2013 Transfer from a CCC

Major - EECS (CSE) (Don’t tell me about L&S CS, I know the difference and have chosen EECS specifically)

All Pre-reqs completed with a Java Programming, Data Structures, and Electronics class taken (those three non-transferable, but recommended).

My current GPA is 3.73 with one non-transferable class (it’s a prereq for another college)
