The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

I just saw a buzzfeed on 10 best places to eat on UCLA campus.

<a href=“10 Best Places To Eat On Campus At UCLA”>http://www.buzzfeed.com/ucla/10-best-places-to-eat-on-campus-at-ucla-sw50

@lindyk8‌

A great list, but they didn’t include Sproul Dining Hall. :(

I had some pizza from there that was ****ing delicious.

Rieber was on the list so that’s convenient for you @cayton.
If Sproul didn’t make the cut, just imagine what the others must be like!

@lindyk8‌

You know, FEAST is Rieber’s dining Hall, and it’s nice, but I don’t love Asian cuisine. I merely like it. Then again, I only ate at FEAST once, so maybe I should try more of the food there.

I’ll probably eat at the other dining facilities more often, though.

I’d be curious as to how many of those accept the meal plan card. I’m not sure many do. I started my daughter at the 11 plan and we’ll see how it goes from there.

I am looking at some possible courses I may want to take, what does this mean?

Enrollment Restriction: HIS,HIS/ART HIS,PRE-HIS,HIS-SCI MINR

Entering as Pre-History Major.

@Tik1127‌
As a pre history major, you can take that class.
Anyone in the listed majors can take the course.

PRE-HIS means pre-history. Those are abbreviations as to who can take the class. (History-science minor, history of art major, etc)

Thank you. I have found 2 courses I believe I will take, but now looking for an elective. There was a course I wanted, but it got filled up when I checked today.

@lindyk8‌

It’d be pretty stupid if some of them didn’t accept meal plans on bruin cards… They should be usable everywhere on campus.

EDIT: Oh, and many off-campus restaurants in Westwood accept them, too. :D

It’s actually pretty smart (on UCLA’s part) to limit where meal plans can be used. When you buy a meal plan they get your money. If you decide to eat at a place that doesn’t take meal plans, they get your money twice.

I’m not sure cayton. I think it’s mostly the hall dining. I can’t see Wolfgang Puck accepting it or any outside vendor leasing UCLA space. It would be hard to handle the accounting.

There was a list online somewhere. That’s why I limited it at first in case she’s at Panda Express a lot…

It would be nice to know.

UPDATE: I believe this is the list of meal plan dining options:
http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1000250

I’m pretty sure meal plans can only be used in dining halls. You can have money put on your bruin card that can be used at most places on campus, but that’s separate from a meal plan.

I THINK this is the full list if where a meal plan can be used. Also check to see which meals can be used at which places.

http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1000250

I found the list above ^^^^, although I am wondering if the new healthy cafeteria will be added. My daughter ate there at orientation. I think it’s the one called Greenhouse or something on that top 10 list.

I see @2016Candles‌ so money added to bruin card is like a debit card, meaning you could just use your debit card. (??)

Yea, it’s like a debit. The benefit is that it can be used to buy just about anything on campus- books, food, personal items, etc so parents can load it up when needed without too much fear that all the money will be spent on clothes, movies, liquor, etc. it’s more controlled.

I personally wouldn’t use it that way because it’s my money either way ;-)

My daughter would buy tons of unecessary bearwear if it were the only clothing option. :frowning:

UCLA’s imposed limits on where I can use my bruin card for meals on campus makes me very sad. :(

New university world rankings out!

UCLA #2 public university in the world, and #12 overall.

@lindyk8‌

It’s the duty of every Bruin to wear UCLA shirts/sweaters/etc at least one day out of the week.

Seriously, though, the campus is filled with so much school spirit. Every time I go there, about 30-40% of the students there are wearing something with the UCLA logo on it…and I’ll be contributing to that this fall quarter, lol
