The Official Guide to Sophisticated Prep School Attire

Lovin-the lax bro’–but why does he look and act exactly like the fraternity boys I knew at UVA in the 80’s??? There’s something weirdly Peter Pan-ish about that video for me…

Gorgeous: I’d take what stoompy says lightly. The best advice I’ve read if you’re worried about clothing is to wait until Thanksgiving to buy anything new. I suspect every school (and group of kids within that school) has its own style.

Vampire ultimate laxbro?

Or, there’s a very strange portrait in a locked closet somewhere…

That’s an amazing idea Classical!
Wait until your first break to buy new clothes rather than buying all sorts of stuff you won’t feel like wearing during Summer Vacation!

Too funny! My husband was also at UVA in the 80’s and he would definitely agree with you! Needless to say, he declined to pledge. ;)

Periwinkle, I’m sure you’re right…vampire laxbro…bahahahah!

This thread is a waste of time. All I’m going to say.

Is it “uncool” that almost 100% of my wardrobe comes from one independently ownned boutique? :p

And I would totally date a lax bro. Just saying.

this thread is just wow… I have lots of friends who went to various prep schools, I went to a prep school and my friends and I are not so shallow that we judged people based on what they wore. Just wear stuff you like that is within the dress code and as long as its not something you’ve worn several days in a row or something with tons of holes, you’re fine…

also the ultimate lax bro goes to my college. he has made quite a lot of money off of that merchandise haha

Where do you go to college?

gorgeousgreen, spell Massachusetts correctly please.

bama- agreed. i dont think i’ve gone out with any guy who wasn’t a lax bro come to think of it. haha

For the record, Ultimate Lax Bro went to Hotchkiss. It’s a great place to be whoever you want to be.

Then a PG year at NMH

Then to a libreal arts college in upstate new york

Yay ultimate lax bro + Hotchkiss!!! Love them both to death. ;)

Stoompy,
Would you mind sharing with us where exactly you go to school? Not trying to pry for info or invade your privacy here… I’m just really curious. :)

EDIT OOOoohh… just realized this was my 100th post!! HOORAY!!! :D

Honestly, the brands you listed are all so expensive. I wear shirts that cost from 5-15 dollars, and I seriously can’t afford to wear Ralph Lauren and Lily Pulitzer. Heck, I don’t even know what Lily Pulitzer is, just that it’s probably some kind of high-end preppy fashion or whatever. Can’t you buy clothes that are cheaper in the US? (I don’t live in the States)

^Don’t worry. I actually do live IN the US, and I’ve never heard of Lily Pulitzer. Then again, I go to a public school…

This is completely correct. For those of you with less money try to go to the outlet stores. I know JCRew has a few. Also, mix in the staples from the more expensive brands with less expensive things that still go with the look. For example, you can buy a $20 from forever 21 and pair it will tory burch shoes ($200). That way your look looks expensive and preppy, but really only the shoes are. stoompy is completely on target!

Also, I would like to comment most of the people on this thread will be “weird” or “uncool” at prep school. You can tell because of the number of people who do not agree with this thread. This is the plain ugly truth, and if you can’t see that you will be in for a surprise when you show up to boarding school! (I think these rules apply less to schools like Exeter, but they are especialy true for Deerfield, Groton, Hotchkiss, Andover, Choate (most prep schools)

i pretty much agree 100% with the thread for myself, its what I wear anyway, but people should be able to dress however they want.

I would have to disagree, hadeswisher. While I would consider the majority of my clothes “high end”, it is entirely possible to find nice, attractive clothes without spending a ton of money.

How do you even know? I thought you didn’t get in anywhere…

Another thing: the only thing most people on this thread seem to disagree with is the price. Are you saying that middle-class kids won’t be accepted at prep school? Because I believe that nearly everyone who has actually ATTENDED a school such as Deerfield, Andover, etc. would disagree. At least as far as I’ve heard.
