@TheSwami , I would ask your kid how he’d like to learn the decision. He’ll share with you and no doubt involve you along the way, but you don’t all need the same information at the same time. But at some level, if it’s a rejection, it’s much more a rejection of him as a student than of you as a family.
Fwiw, when DS was applying to BS, he was happy to have ME open the portal and then tell him the decision. (And I could look while he slept. None of this family gathered around the computer decision!) When he was applying to college, I was thoroughly disintermediated through most of the process including getting results. I would know that decisions had been released by following the schools here on CC and would casually ask if he’d looked at his decision. Sometimes he had, sometimes not, but the one thing that mattered was that he know first!
Friday, March 8th is going to be such a fun night. I’ll be having an all-nighter since Exeter’s decisions come out at 6AM the following day. I’ll probably go to sleep after receiving my rejection/acceptance and wake up at 12 to check Andover’s. I’ll probably go back to sleep afterwards, and wake up later that afternoon to go out and celebrate with my parent for getting through this process, even if I am rejected.
@ilovechoateeeee I’m on the same boat here. My parents are the type of people to open letters sent to me. Most of the time, they don’t even tell me that I got mail. I still love them though :x
@TheSwami there’s no judgement here…, and if you notice, I agreed with your initial statement. I just was trying to remind everyone that the entire family is affected and to think about the entire dynamic when making the decisions on how to learn of your results. This message is as much to parents as kids. As much as I think this should be a discussion amongst all involved in the BS journey, I feel that ALL aspects should be considered and a decision based on what is right for those involved. Again…something to think on…
@buuzn03 I think it should be something the parents and kids talk about. Sometimes kids who are really hard on themselves might want to find out about rejection without their parents there, because if their parents are disappointed it just makes it harder. I still think it’s just a very personal decision, and there’s no right answer.
I’m having some friends over on march 8 for a sleepover to try and take my mind off things. they all know about this school stuff and i’ll probably do an all nighter with them and open exeter’s decision at 6 AM. at least they’ll know how to make me feel better in case of rejection and then i can have some fun after my disappointment with them
We got an email from Exeter asking for a piece of missing FA paperwork. Does it mean anything if it’s gotten to the FA stage? I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up because there’s no reason to, I’m just curious. Also, did anybody else get this or have experience with these types of communications?
honestly i think i’m going to open my decisions alone as well… i have a good lps, which is why i only applied to a few schools, and i’m not afraid of getting rejected as a consequence of those actions, but i’d like to prepare myself alone to talk to my family afterwards. still doesn’t mean i’m not anxious though lol help
Hey, well I’m new!
Since we’re on the topic of what we are going to do,
does anyone have a regionals concert to practice for? I have that m1.
Im planning on an all-nighter so I can stay asleep during the bulk of the decisions
@ilovechoateeeee ikr it’s disappointing >:( if only breaks could f e e l (and be, tbh) much longer
and also, i’m still jealous of your schools rules that don’t allow your teachers to give you hw over the break - i’ve done nothing because i’ve been sick this entire week, which means now i have five projects and nine assignments to do due throughout the week. oh boy do i love school. the ib program in particular >;(((
@muchanxieotea I hope you feel better!! I had a very busy weekend, but the next two weeks should feel long. Grades are due soon for my school so they are packing in tests and essays. I currently don’t have any plans for M9, but on M8 my friend and I are going to get Starbucks and bake cookies for the whole afternoon. And I have tests on that monday to study for.
