The Official October 2012 Sat Subject Test Math Level 2 Thread

what do u think the curve is gonna be. e.g. how many to get wrong to get an 800

wait I thought that was a cylinder with the cut in half. ?!? Please tell me I’m thinking of another question.

volume is cut in half, not the height

This question:

Also what was the answer to this questions :
F(x) = ax^3 + bx^2
(i) it has two distinct roots
(ii) it is greater than one
(iii) its range is all real numbers or something like that…

a or b could easily by i, since the only restriction was that neither was 0, so I don’t think III would be correct. I said only I.

@armavirumquecan0
All cubic functions (and F(x) is cubic since a is not 0) approach -infinity in one direction an +infinity in the other (depending on whether a is + or -), so the range is all reals.

This thread has 218 posts but I’ve counted, and we’ve only discussed 8 questions!

 1. F(x)=ax^3+bx^2 ANS: range is all reals and two distinct zeros (I and III only)
 2. F(a+1)=-1, F(a)=0,… ANS: -1
 3. Mean = 74, standard deviation =2 ANS: above the 99th percentile
 4. Lowest score dropped; 95 on last test ANS: mean (I only)
 5. Number of times the populations the same ANS: 6
 6. Cone volume ANS:14.3
 7. Lowest value of 3+cosA ANS: 3.71
 8. Number of zeros of f(x)*g(x) ANS: 2, 3, or 4

what did people get for the arithmatic series through (3n+2)?

Btw answer to that 95 added q should me mean and standard deviation both.

Mean cannot change without so changingz

@adi2915
No. Standard deviation could go up or down. See post #150

do we get different test forms?? is that we get different test id’s?

@armavirumquecan0
I can’t remember, but I’ll try it again, if you remind me of the details I’ve forgotten. What I seem to remember was that the first term was 1, the common difference was 3 and you were supposed to find the sum of the first ? terms.

Assuming that I got every single one which we’ve discussed here wrong, (unlikely, I just don’t remember my answers), my score still isn’t that bad.

wait guys stop talking about the test. collegeboard will cancel your scores. ):

1 was 25/64 or something

For the one with sinx=.5 and cosx=.5 answer was 150
And for the one with the log pr^2 or something it was 11

@michael2013
I think it was actually 64/25.

@kingsaste
I got 150 degrees, too, for which one cannot be the sum
and 11 for the log one

answer to that sequence thing was 2^16
tan(x) is odd
z = 0 is the set of pts equidistant (0,0,5) and (0,0,-5)
For the time at 60 mph it was (240-80t)/60 = 4 -(4/3)t
Lemme see if i remember more problems…

also 11 for the one about (6n plus or -1) is prime, because 65 is not prime

@kingaste: ditto on those answers
@melzid: oh yeah i remember, youre right
