What the hell? I came back hoping to see some more acceptances, but now I’m so sad to see all these rejections I’m really surprised that you got rejected unefemme. I honestly thought you had a chance. All of you should’ve gotten in. Geez, I wonder what the acceptance rate was this year…
Are any of you planning to appeal? After reading the info about appeals that they sent out, I decided that I won’t because I don’t think it would guarantee me getting into SCA anyways. I plan to go to USC for grad school.

That really cheers me up that you thought I had a shot :]
Yeah, total bummer though. Not sure if I am going to appeal or not, but I am definitely going to try to transfer. What about you?
I just see it as at least now I’ll be able to go to college next year with my friends and some sense of familiarity, rather than head off across states to somewhere where I would literally know 2 people. Ease into college, and all that.

It all works out in the end. As long as you put your creativity first and keep doing what you love you guys will all do amazing!

According to the lady on the phone at SCA: If I were to appeal I would go to CLAS and then try to transfer into SCA. Doesn’t seem worth it to me. Willamette I suppose.

For all those who were rejected, what are your plans now? Is it even harder to transfer into SCA as a grad?

FilmFanatic is right. Keep your goals ahead of you and you’ll come out clean, yet blissfully tired, in the end. If you ever want to hear some inspiring words or view the doubt and near insanity of one great filmmaker, watch the documentary “Hearts of Darkness” which is by Eleanor Coppola, on her husband’s film, Apocalypse Now. Good ol’ Francis had some pretty inspiring things to say towards the end.

just asking, does sca send a separate rejection letter than CLAS? i got a rejection from usc but nowhere does it mention sca…

No they don’t. YOu can’t get into SCA without being admitted to USC.

ouch… man, now i’m expecting a rejection as well, but i have to wait till freakin june (im a transfer)… some of the people here i read have outstanding GPA’s and scores, they do a bunch of stuff at their school, but really, what probably makes you different from everyone else is your essay, some stand out more than others, and for SCA its all about standing out in a very unique way, and the essay is your best chance at doing that.

by the way my gpa totally sucks compared to everyone else’s here, so i shouldn’t expect anything but rejection, i can sympathize with you all…

remember there is no such thing as doing “enough” keep doing what you do and YOU make it happen because IT will not happen for you…

My son was accepted for production for spring, just got the letter today on the East Coast so he is a late addition to this list:

I was accepted by the USC as undeclared late in March, but I still haven’t heard from the SCA for the production major… my status was updated to “acted on” on the 03/28/09, but I still haven’t heard anything… anyone know when I should expect to hear anything?

posting this to bump

the rower, one of my classmates got her acceptance to USC, but no news from SCA yet either. I wonder why that is. But you’re not alone!

Also, does anybody have any idea what the stats are for SCA transfers? I’m really curious.

unefemme,
That’s a good question. However, I strongly believe that in this case, stats are not the most important thing. I even think in terms of other types of programs it isn’t. I got great grades in high-school up until senior year, where I just became bored with what I was given to do and hardly went. I have terrible SAT Scores, and was bad at math. But when it came to the things I was good at, it was obvious that I would excel as a student in certain areas. I’ve never been rejected from a school (literally knocking on wood), and I’ve heard the same for others. It’s good to be curious, but don’t let it sink in too much.

got my nice rejection letter today, so who knows anything about transferring in?

EDYE- haha yeah i’m trying not to worry too much about that, I more meant acceptance rates and that business. If I worried about how I “stack up” I think I would just drive myself crazy, haha. :)

My first mistake was not doing the research into all these groups out there about helping each other out.

Since 1st grade I have wanted to get into film. I am not the “artsy” guy, but more I have an eye and love the work behind the camera. (you get what im saying?)

Thanks

casey487 Sorry to hear that you are rejected. In my opinion, your stats look perfect. maybe your essay was not as strong as the other applicants. i will love to read your essay though.

Naperville?! So close to where I live!

casey487,
I’d read your essays. Your stats look very similar to mine when I was in high school. My grades and stats were way better in college though, so I’d suggest trying to transfer in, as I am trying to do after an Associates degree in Film Crit. which took two years. I feel more well rounded, not with the craft of making films, but with the familiarity of breaking them down and deciding which kinds of films I gravitate to. Anyways, my email is film_freak28■■■■■■.com. I’d love to read them.
