@ocnative: 23rd! :)

@imaplealot

Cool! Me too

@ocnative: Hopefully, we somewhere meet each other.
We won’t know though.

@imaplealot Yeah, definitely! Or I’ll just shout out your username until I get a response somewhere, lol.

Did you notice that it says there will be no stops along the way. That’s going to be a looong ride

@ocnative: I’m going to bring so many snacks. I get so hungry and bored lol!

Does anyone know if a later CalSo date will affect me negatively?

@imaplealot Earlier is better because you get to register for classes sooner. If you have a later date, it’s more likely for something you need to fill up. The phase system is pretty fair with letting everyone get their classes, so late will really only be an issue if you want a popular class/professor.

Hello all future Cal Bears! I am hoping that you all who are ahead of the game can help fill me in. I was rejected through the regular admit process, but my application was also in the “special admit” process and just found out today that I am officially accepted to Cal. I am over the top excited. My MyBerkeley is not yet updated so I don’t have access to any of the orientation dates, my advisor will contact me next week, but I would really like to know any of the info now. Anything that anybody cares to share would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have an @berkeley.edu email yet? If so, join the Housing, Buy/Sell, and Cof2016 pages.

@calbro
Thank you! I do not have an @berkeley email yet, but I will definitely join the groups you noted as soon as I get my id.

It sounds like everyone who is accepted is assigned a counselor so I am waiting for that as well.

Today is the last day to pose for cal 1 card. I know that calso will introduce the cards to students. If we want to have Cal take the picture, could we take the picture during calso or do we have to take it before our calso date?

@oongaboonga when I click “pose” for my Cal1 card it takes me to their website, but I don’t see anything about where to upload a picture??? EDIT: never mind it’s under the checklist tab…

When do we hear back from housing? Late June? UCLA group heard back really quick.

What do you guys think would be better? Martinez Commons single room in apartment, Channing bowditch single room in apartment, or Clark Kerr/Foothill single in suite? Factoring in cost, privacy, and proximity to campus.

Imo:

Martinez (I’ve only read good reviews on the dorms and apartments)

Channing Bowditch apartment (possibly the farthest? need to sign 1 yr lease and you cannot sublease)

Foothill suites

Clark Kerr suite

You will probably need to do some calculations based on your aid and eating habits to see what is really worth it for you. You will lose some aid if you live in a technically “off campus” apartment - may or may not impact you. I averaged it out for myself and it didn’t impact me much. A single suite runs about 1.8k a month with food. I can easily survive on < $200 a month for food with my diet. So even in a uni apartment I’d save about 5k per academic year. Which adds up if you need to take out loans like I do. But, price aside the suites in Foothill seem nice.

@JewBacca Martinez is all singles. The others you listed have almost no singles, and it’s unlikely you’ll get one there. Personally I’d say Martinez is the best of those options, especially since it’s actually singles.
Channing-Bowditch and Martinez are right next to each other, both are just a couple blocks from campus, great location. The leases are different, so factor that in to your decision (do you want to pay for a full year, or just academic year?). Keep in mind that singles are rare… even if Martinez is your top choice, you might not get a single.

@ocnative I transferred two years ago, the offer email from then says June 21. So, you’ve got a couple weeks of waiting to do.

@failure622 I am in my mid twenties so I am FOR SURE not living in the dorms if I don’t have my own room lol. Thanks for the input though. Martinez seems pretty expensive compared to other off campus choices.

@JewBacca All of the apartment dorms are upper division, there’s a lot of transfers, older students, and people in weird situations there. So, age difference wouldn’t be a huge problem if you went for an apartment dorm, and it’s unlikely to cause issues there (in my room, I think ages were 20-24? no one cares unless it’s your 21st birthday). And yes, Martinez is the most expensive of those options BECAUSE it’s singles. If you decide to go for non-campus owned housing, you should start searching ASAP… housing is expensive, singles/studios are more expensive, and waiting til the last minute to find housing is a recipe for disaster.

@failure622 I just checked my financial aid and I get 7k more in scholarship/gift aid if I live on campus. I am thinking maybe Channing is the best option with that factoring in. I wouldn’t mind living with 3-4 people as long as I had my OWN bedroom that locked and a kitchen. What do you think? I am assuming Channing is considered on campus for financial aid purposes.

Grrr I looked it up and they are considered off campus :((
