this is kind of useless if people just post there stats and no one actually reviews them…

Agree

Also those who post, not all get a direct reply.

Hi!

Some of you are complaining about no one replying to your chance threads. This is because of the fact that chancers chance people when they have the time to, and with the EA/ED deadlines coming up, many people don’t have that time on their hands.

However, you are lucky that I have some free time right now, so I’ll be posting chances in just a few minutes … hang on!

Hi MattEisn!

I’ve chanced about 150 people now, so I’ll be more than happy to chance you too.

Note that admissions for UMich will become more difficult this year, so you should apply for UMich ASAP. They use rolling admissions, so the earlier you apply, the better.

Your SAT composite score of 2020 is decent, as it places you within UM’s mid 50 percent range of 1920-2180. You should be safe in terms of test scores, but if you want a better chance at Ross, I recommend that you retake the SAT. The average Ross preadmit is a 1420 (out of 1600). UMich does not require SAT Subjects; however, taking them will allow admissions to have a clearer picture of your academic abilities.

Your UM recalculated GPA is below the mid 50% range of 3.7-4.0, so you are in a little bit of a disadvantage. However, you do have a unique situation in that you transferred into a boarding school with a more challenging academic environment. If you have not done so, please ask your counselor to discuss it in her rec. It may help you in admissions, because your 3.67 is really not all that bad — but it’s not that good either, since UM cares so much about the GPA. Your IB courseload will also be viewed favorably. Aim for a grade 6 or higher on those tests.

Other than that, your legacy and the fact that your father is a faculty at Ross should help you at admissions.

Your chance at UM is a match, and I highly recommend you to write really good essays and to send your app in ASAP in order to boost your chances even further.

However, your chance at Ross is a bit more slim. I would rate it as a reach, given that both your SAT and GPA are below average, though not by that much. I’m not sure about how much your dad could help here, but your chances could be improved by writing a really good essay showing your passion for business. Supplement that passion with ECs that are related to business.

QuikSilver, your eval will come soon, hopefully by tonight. If I forget, PM me.

I hope you found this helpful, and good luck! GO BLUE!
-ab2013

matt: your scores and gpa arent’t that great, but your connections to the university should help. i’d say you have a 75% chance in my unqualified opinion

Hi quiksilverbq!

As I promised, here is your eval:

Your SAT total of 2100 is very solid, placing you quite near the Top 75th percentile of UMich’s range. Your SAT Math is also quite high. UMich does not require SAT Subjects, but having them will not hurt you, especially since you have a 650+ on all two tests.

You stated that you have a W GPA of 92. Based on this, I’m thinking that you have a solid mixture of As and Bs. Because of that, your UW GPA would probably be a 3.6-3.7, so your grades are on the lower end for UMich, possibly below the bottom 25%ile.

As for your ECs, they are quite solid and in some cases demonstrate dedication. You also seem like the student-athlete … you have quite the laundry list … you’ll probably end up attaching the rest of your ECs in a separate document!

Based on your stats and ECs, I will rate you as a match, with a bit of a lean towards the safety side, with your higher test scores. You would be more of a safety match if you had a higher GPA, like a 3.8.

Good luck!

^ Madapan and greenday fan: you guys need to calculate your michigan unweighted GPAs.

how do you calculate UMich gpa?

Only soph and junior year, only 5 academic classes (math, sci, ss,eng, lang) So you have only 10grades for UMGPA:

a-,a,a+= 4.0
b-,b,b+= 3.0
c-,c,c+= 2.0

Avg GPA of admitted UMich: >3.7 (or mostly a’s and a-'s)…general guideline is 1 B per year…
