Thank you see you as a classmate in the future huh? ;)

Thanks @billcsho. If I can raise my SAT score to a 2100, do you think that I have a pretty sure chance?

Yes @wannabeivy3

Hi @Whatfreak123,
I think you’ll be fine. Raise those ACT scores and consider taking the SAT, and you should be fine.

[ *] College (LSA, engineering, etc.): LSA
[ *] SAT: 2160; 700 R, 740 M, 720 W
[ *] SAT IIs (if sent): Haven’t taken yet, will submit Math II and Lit (assume around 700)
[ *] UM unweighted GPA: 3.7
[ *] Rank: 21/164
[ *] Subjective (ECs, special circumstances, etc): FBLA, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, World Affairs Club, Honors Academy, 3 years varsity football, 2 years varsity basketball
[ *) Location/Person: OOS
[ *] State or Country: PA
[ *] School Type: Public (well performing)
[ *] Ethnicity: Asian
[ *] Gender: M
[ *] major strength/weakness: Pretty strong writer, hopefully will be able to write some powerful essays.
I will take a total of 6 AP throughout highschool (4 senior year). Have a challenging senior year courseload planned.

@wemadeit15 I am certain you will make the cut. Chance me back?

Can someone on here go onto my account, find my northwestern chance me thread and respond? I want four-five more opinions… thanks!

@wemadeit15, Your GPA would be the only concern. Your SAT is right at admission average. It would be a low reach to reach for you as oos.

[ *] College: LSA

[ *] ACT: 33 composite, 11 on writing

[ *] UM unweighted GPA: I’m not sure how it’d be calculated given that some of my classes that might be considered academic weren’t counted as academic by my school. So here’s a long list of my grades. Sorry :/

Freshman year:
Honors Physics PCB - A both semesters
Honors History of World Civilizations - A both semesters
Honors Freshman English - A both semesters
Advanced Algebra - A both semesters
Honors French 2 - A both semesters

Sophomore year:
Honors Sophomore English: B both semesters
Honors French 3: B, then A
Pre-Calculus - A then B
Honors Chemistry PCB - B both semesters
Sociology - 1 semester, A
Brain Studies - 1 semester, A
I did take a Marketing and an Intro to Business class. Each was 1 semester, and I got an A in both, but they don’t count towards my academic GPA.

Junior year course load:
Honors Junior English - B both semesters
Honors French 4 - A both semesters
AP US History - B first semester, then an A
AP Calc AB - B both semesters
Honors Bio PCB - B both semesters
Honors Consumer Education 1st semester - B
Public Speaking 2nd semester - A
My 1st semester gym counts towards my academic GPA too (t’s honors gym) - A

Overall GPA (calculated by my school) as of now:
Unweighted is about 3.7
Weighted is like 4.36

Predicted Senior year course load:
AP Psych
AP Stats
AP Chem
AP French
AP Lang
AP Macro for one semester
That honors gym again, but for both semesters
Possible independent study/research project with my Brain Studies teacher from sophomore year. I still need to work that out.

My freshman year grades were the best because I had no social life that year. Once I found friends they did drop, but I wouldn’t trade my friends for all the As in the world.

[ *] Rank: My school doesn’t rank, probably around top 15%

[ *] Other stats: A couple awards for a national french contest, and recognition from my physics teacher and brain studies teacher. My school’s science department has an ice cream party at the end of the year where they recognize students.

[ *] Subjective (ECs, special circumstances, etc):
Erika’s Lighthouse club: 9th-12th, hopefully a leadership position this year, since I’m pretty much the reason the club is still around.
PAWS animal club: 9, 11 - couldn’t do it sophomore year b/c of a schedule conflict. Board position for senior year.
FNHS: 10th -12th grade, I might be an officer this year, but don’t count that.
Job as an assistant at an orthodontist’s office a couple days a week, usually from about 3:30 to 6 if it’s a school day, and 8:30 to 1:30 on some Saturdays.
I also volunteer at a student run program (NOT through school, the school doesn’t approve of it) called Safe Rides. I know Michigan has something like it, but at my school it’s more for picking up kids who either don’t have a ride home after curfew or aren’t able to drive on their own. I’m not sure if I should put this on my application because I don’t know what colleges will think of it, but if I’d like to. We start around 10p.m. and run until 2a.m. I’m usually a driver but sometimes I’ll be a dispatcher if it’s needed.

[ *] Essays: Hopefully they’ll be good. I’m not starting them until August 1st, but I’m going to get them checked by one person to make sure they sound like me. (This was suggested by someone on these forums)

[ *] Teacher Recs: Hopefully they’ll be good. My calc teacher is writing me one, and I’m debating on asking my brains studies teacher for one.

[ *] Counselor Rec: Should be good, I have a good relationship with her and she knows me pretty well.

[ *] Hook (legacy, recruited athlete, etc.): None :(

[ *) Location/Person: Northbrook

[ *] State or Country: Illinois

[ *] School Type: Public

[ *] Ethnicity: Caucasian

[ *] Gender: Female

[ *] major strength/weakness: My grades went on a bit of a downward trend after freshman year.

[ *] Other Factors/questions: Should I apply early action? When I talked with a current student there, he suggested it, but I want to make sure I have a strong GPA as well. Is there anything else I should know about applying to the school, or be working on before application time comes around?

Can you get in with a 3.80 GPA, 2260 SAT, and fairly decent EC’s and other stuff?

@sirswish7 Depends on your EC’s, but @ U Michigan, your gpa is the MAIN factor, which demphasizes your ECs and your Essay. Your gpa is pretty good, and your SAT score is great, so you got a great chance at getting in.

@Whatfreak123 I’ll just say this: My EC’s are definitely the stronger point of my app compared with academics. But, thanks! I was worried about the GPA not being high enough. I also attended MMSS if that helps at all.

Does Michigan take into account whether the grade was +/-? My high school only uses the letter grade, not +/-, so an 89.4 is a B at my high school.

@jinglebells85 They dont care about +/- @

Okay, thanks. Would you mind taking a minute to chance me please? My stats are on the previous page. I’d really appreciate it Please & Thanks!

@jinglebells85 only if u chance me on my northwestern post lol ;)

@jinglebells85 your UM Gpa is calculated using only your sophomore and junior year grades BTW

darn my GPA is probably my weak point then.

@jinglebells85 Same for me
So yes with a UM Gpa of about 3.6 or below, you will probably be denied because Umich is REALLY Gpa oriented,

@jinglebells85 your ACT, EC’s are really good!
Your essay will have to make up for a low UM GPA, sooo if ur essay is really good, Umich might ignore a low GPA
