The Olympics

Something for everyone at the Olympics. Aint’t it great!

The only time I ever watch hockey is during the Olympics. Can’t wait!

NBC is NOT SHOWING Russia-Czech Republic, the first of the three games of Epic Hockey. How can they do this to us???

CF - it’s on here on NBC.

^^^^^^
Cardinal, it is on here in Georgia.

Rackets was an Olympic sport in 1902. There is no hue and cry to bring it back. The fact that it is only played in 3 countries kind of works against its return.

Oh, well…

NBC, the network of EPIC FAIL, is not showing us West Coasters the hockey. We are watching the *&^%ing qualifiers, the time qualifiers I say, not the real event, of ski cross. Either the network of EPIC FAIL is going to tape delay the USA Canada game, which is beyond appalling, or we’ll miss Russia-Czech. Or, as I hear is going to happen, they will broadcast both games at one time on two different channels.

There’s supposed to be some way to get the game streamed, but I can’t get it to work on my computer.

Just got back from the gym, and several of the TVs actually had bowling on them. I’d much rather watch curling any day than bowling.

I know this will sound odd, but back in the mid to late 70s, hockey was just making inroads in the south, and Houston had a WHA team (the Aeros - and yes, I know they’re back there). I lived a few blocks from one of the rinks where they practiced at sometimes, and I eventually got a job there, which I had throughout high school, and sometimes when I’d come home for weekends/breaks. I became a HUGE hockey fan. I’d go to bed every Sunday night, listening to the Aeros AM radio talk show. I’d was incredibly psyched anytime any sort of hockey game made it on TV. I attended many of the games. Another one of my jobs was to be scorekeeper for the amateur leagues (I think I got paid a whopping $5/game) which allowed me to watch much more hockey than the average Houstonian. Whenever I go to a high school reunion, someone always brings up how my life revolved around hockey. Pretty much anyone I dated played hockey.

Move ahead five years later, a year after college graduation, H and I move to the Midwest and have basically been here since, and I’ve not gone to one hockey game. Go figure.

Cardinal, I’m sorry that NBC failed you. It was an exciting game. Really looking forward to tonight!

People on the West Coast probably just got tape delay…

Yes, NBC has failed the west coast. We had to wait until after 11 P.M. to watch speed skating while everyone else was talking about it online and in the news. It’s not like Vancouver isn’t on the other side of the world!

I’m confused. We’re not going to get US hockey tonight?

NBC = too much yacking, not enough sports = fail. If yacking was an olympic winter sport they’d get a gold.

I don’t understand what the time delays either, specially on a sunday. Can understand when it is on the other side of the world but we’re on the same continent for goodness sake. I accidentally saw the results for the upcoming race which kind of takes the excitement out of it. grr.

Well, THE hockey game is on MSNBC, and we’re not getting it because we need some sort of cable box to get MSNBC, which we refused to pay for. We are, however, getting curling on CNBC.

The exact opposite for us near Chitown, Directv. We are getting msnbc, but cnbc is always pay-per-view.

MSNBC has the game live (I believe)

No cable here. :(

watching on MSNBC

US scored 40 seconds into the game … a few minutes later Canada tied the game … and the US scored 20 seconds later to go back into the lead … Canada scored early in the second period to tie the game. It’s the middle of the 2nd period and still the score is 2-2 … shots on net are about 25-10 Canada … US is hanging on for their life.

(One observation … I did not realize Sidney Crosby was so fast … he is just blowing by the US guys).

game evened out for the last 10 minutes or so … and the US just scored to take a 3-2 lead with about 3 minutes to go in the second period. The intensity and speed of the game is terrific!

second period ended … 3-2 US … shots 31-19 Canada … US is on the power play with about 1 minute left when the 3rd period starts
